I'm thankful to have found your tutorials in Leathercraft. This is something I've wanted to learn how to do for a long time (since the 1980's) but never had an opportunity to do so. I'm getting back into Crafts and thought I'd check out KZbin to see if I could find Scroll Saw videos and I saw a man take leather and wood together and create something spectacular. So I decided to see what I could find on tooling leather. Finally I found Your Channel and I have to say You are an Amazing Teacher and I cannot Thank You Enough for sharing Your Talent and taking time to create your tutorials!! May God continue to Bless You Always!! Sincerely, J Q

This is so incredibly helpful! I've been struggling and you resolved my issues. I've been using my tools all wrong - smashing and mashing my work, your touch is so light! The detailed instruction on how to get precise results from the specific tools cleared up much confusion for me. I can't thank you enough!

The biggest thing you have given to me, and I want to thank you for it, is to not freak out, get mad and lose it over being a perfectionist. I got that from another one of your videos. I do tend to be a "perfectionist". I was making a guitar strap for a 17 year old friend and I messed it up. I double stamped one of the letters of his name and also made a mar from the stamp. My first reaction was to throw the whole thing in the garbage , yell and start all over. Rather, thinking of what you had said, I worked the double stamping into my design like the effect was intended and backgrounded over the marring and some of the double-stamping. Not perfect! But he loved it and I got several compliments from friends who saw it and my wife (my best friend). Thank you so much.

I've only started tooling within the past month. Figured out a lot on my own, basket weave was fun, and had some help from my boss who has never known the smell of leather due to being around it literally all his life. Of all the videos I've watched, yours have been the most helpful. Do you have a video of cursive or script lettering? I don't want to use lettering stamps because I don't like how boxy and uniform they look

I don't have a video for that - I go cursive on leather myself for the same reason...

A question I often have is when to use checkered bevelers or smooth ones. It seems you almost always use smooth. Is it just preference or is there a general suggestion about when to use which?
@leatherworker7 жыл бұрын
I started with a smooth beveler 39 years ago. Until recently, that was also the starter beveler B200 - a smooth beveler. Whenever I teach people, I like to teach them to use the smooth one first - it glides easier as you move it along and once you have mastered it, the others are just variations. You need to be able to master a smooth beveler, because in many designs you have to bevel over the design (you are not always beveling background only) - a rose would look funny if your beveling of the petals cause parts of the rose to have a textured surface. So those are the most important reasons I use smooth bevelers. Textured bevelers are nice to use where your beveled background will in any case be textured. Used on an inside border of a tooled background, they also nicely obliterate the background stamp underneath it. I hope that helps!

Brady McPhail I can try...... Ask to join the group "Facebook Leathercrafters" on Facebook. I'll see if I can find a design. It'll be a bit easier to have contact there......

Hi Johan, where do you get your tooling leather from?
@leatherworker7 жыл бұрын
dilip, I live in America, so I go to a local Tandy store where I can inspect and feel the leather before I buy it. Where do you live?
