It's usually more difficult for people around the deaf person, who may not be aware the child/adult is deaf, than the person who is. Children running into roads not hearing the cars can so easily be run over. I had hearing problems as a child, I had two operations, aged 5 and 8, and I am really glad my hearing was restored - I would have lost a lot of atmospheric sounds too - like bird song, the sound of a brook, animal noises, children laughing and yes crying...music and conversations. If deafness can be cured and hearing restored, I'm all for it - whatever age.

If Rose wishes to remain as she is, that is her right. If other deaf people want to be able to hear or enable their children to hear, that is their right. If I ever became deaf, I would want to be "fixed" and have my hearing restored. Would you tell a blind person to refuse treatment or surgery that could restore their sight?
