Texas had the best secondary in history that year. Michael Huff (starter for Raiders), Cedric Griffin (starter for Vikings), Michael Griffin (starter for Titans) and Tarell Brown (starter for 49ers). Just NASTY. I remember how highly anticipated this game was leading up to it because of the level of talent on both teams. The game actually lived up to its hype and has gone down in history as one of the best ever.

A lot of University of Texas Alumni will not like this, but the 2005 team was MUCH better than the 1969 team. Schedule was much harder, and they matched against the VERY powerful USC Trojans! 1 against 2, both undefeated - the way it should be! USC very classy.

This game proves why the Heisman trophy should be awarded after every game is over. To see how the "top performers" perform under the biggest lights. Reggie crumbled under the spotlight while Vince rose.

As a USC fan this hurts a lot. Watching this again makes you think USC is going to win but respect for Vince Young for taking over.

Greatest game ive ever seen and not a fan of either team. One of the few times where the game lived up to the hype. USC was probably the better tram, but Vince's effort that night was superhuman. Amazing game.

In any other game it would have been a great game, but Vince dominated that game. Throw in Bush's bonehead try at a lateral when USC was heading for at least another field goal and he just couldn't measure up.

It was like the aura of invisibility of USC was gone after this loss. Yes they won 3 straight Rose Bowl games against Michigan, Illinois & Penn St. BUT losses to UCLA, Stanford, Oregon St. cost them opportunities to play the NC game during the 2006-08 seasons.

And in the DVD of this game, we hear Texas' Offensive Coordinator and Mack Brown talk about how they crushed Vince's style of play until midway thru the 2004 season, and finally let him go. "And we started winning." Du-uh.

Everyone complaining about "times out" is complaining about Keith Jackson one of the most legendary broadcasters of all time -- and he is technically correct: it's like "postmasters general" or "attorneys general" but almost no one uses it

No, he’s wrong, because in American and Canadian English, timeout is a single word.

dimitri richardson You must not have lived through it. USC was being called the best college team ever. And they were basically playing at home. There were two Heisman winners on the field and neither was even the best player in the game. The tension was incredible. And, finally, Young's game was other worldly.
@joebuck49579 жыл бұрын
I see where you are coming from, but the game was kind of sloppy, a few bad calls or mistakes by coaches. Texas played a good game but USC kind of gave it away at the same time. The bush lateral and the face mask at 1:24:14 those were huge. Both teams started off annoyingly slow. USC's defense was not the greatest that season. Texas' kicker missed an extra point and a 31 yard field goal.
@TheLocalLt9 жыл бұрын
+AJ GK The first half really wasn't that good but the second half was absolutely fantastic. The USC offense with its two Heisman winners did everything that is normally necessary to win (gave USC a 12 point lead with 5 minutes to play) and secure its status as the greatest dynasty ever, but one man (Young) had other ideas and almost single-handedly scored 15 straight points to win for the other undefeated team that had been overlooked the whole year because USC hadn't lost a game for two seasons.
@joebuck49579 жыл бұрын
I just have a handful of games in my mind that were better played then this game. USC's defense was ordinary. They gave up 42 points to Fresno State for crying out loud.
@TheLocalLt9 жыл бұрын
+AJ GK that game was just as good, but the tiebreaker is the fact that this is the Rose Bowl, the "grandaddy of them all", and on top of that it is #1 vs #2 for the national title. The other game was an early-season game in Columbus at the Horseshoe.

They should have kept him in but only as a decoy because White is a better power back
@Justin-hh4et9 жыл бұрын
+jmoody4138 Well, obviously. Bush should of been on the outside as a pitch option. That clears out a linebacker or two to counter the pitch or toss. But, LenDale goes up the middle so, it was automatically known as a dive or power run.
