Hi, Brilliant video thank you. Please could you tell me if would this work on a barette clip instead as combs just won't stay in my hair. With thanks x
@FlowerJoos2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can attach to a comb or a clip - as long as it is secure! The paper covered wire is ideal for attaching it to either as well 😀

This is lovely. Thanks for the detailed instruction. I was thinking as I watched that this same technique could be used to cover a firm headband with dried or faux flowers, as long as one makes sure that the wires are twisted in where they won't poke the wearer in the head. I have a bunch of left over really nice silk faux flowers from a winter holidays arrangement I created a couple of weeks ago, including white orchids. Now I need a white headband or some white silk ribbon and some wire to experiment. ;0) Thanks!

Hi John! Once again, congratulations on your videos! Thank you for sharing these techniques in such a simple and didactic way! I am Brazilian and recently started working as a florist. I have made some bridal bouquets and my specialty is the bouquets with succulents. I received the request for a hair arrangement with orchids and succulents of full length of 10 inches. I am in doubt about how to make the structure of this arrangement because I will not use comb as a base. Could you help me with any tips ?!

Sarah Blima hello - thank you for watching. Is the hair flower to be a circlet? If so you can wire the flowers and create it with wire. Using different flowers will create a different effect. We have a video for the ring. The cold glue is good for flowers on a comb - maybe good for the succulents? If you have a picture I can advise better?

@FlowerJoos4 жыл бұрын
pari sandhu it is not the pot tape but the corsage tape. It has different names depending on brand, and it can be white, green or brown. We would call it gutta or gutta perca, or stem tex, or floratape. This one is an oasis product.

Hi,,, what kind of haircomb should i use??I need to use it for big flowers headPiece,,,thankx
@FlowerJoos4 жыл бұрын
pari sandhu in this video we have used a very simple comb - it’s really lightweight. For a bigger one you can use different comb styles - so even a hair clip is fine to use. I would look to find a comb you like that isn’t too heavy but is very secure. Wiring the corsage onto the comb works for most styles of comb. For very heavy flower placement you could combine a band with a comb, plus hairpins. The strength of hair and the style will also have an impact on how it sits securely. 🌼

What is the wire and the ribbon called?
@FlowerJoos Жыл бұрын
The floral tape is called parafilm or gutta perca - and the wires are just floristry wires - same as you much use for cake decorating. The sizes are .22 for. A thick green wire, and .26 and .28 for the rose wires ( the higher the number the finer the wire ) .
@WendysCraftDen6 жыл бұрын
Hi John. Its me again. Just watching you with the floral tape how do you get it to catch? I have to use a dab of hot glue with mine or it just twists off. Thank you in advance. Hugs xxx Wendy
@FlowerJoos5 жыл бұрын
Wendy Margaret Davies-Stead did you use the paper tape or plastic? Either way you need to stretch it as you twist to get it to hold. Just saw your comment here, so so for delay in reply.

How do you put rose wire on the green leafs?
@FlowerJoos6 жыл бұрын
MARY LEBEAU at the back of a leaf stitch the wire through the leaf about two thirds of the way up the main vein. Fold the wire down and you can just loop one end around the leaf stem to secure the other end of the wire to the leaf stem. I will do this on our live session on Tuesday.
@joannetyler83907 жыл бұрын
How did you get wires into the ivy leaves?
@FlowerJoos7 жыл бұрын
JoAnne Tyler you need to fold the wire into a hairpin loop with a long tail and a short tail - then stitch this through the leaf from behind about 2/3 reds up the main vein. Bring the kegs of the wire down to the leaf stem and using the long wire, twist it around the stem and the short wire a couple of time to secure. Then you can tape the unit. We have a video showing this in more detail - have a look!

how long does it stay fresh? i mean the smaller flower the faster it dies, right?
@FlowerJoos7 жыл бұрын
Laura Feďová it is best to make on the day it's needed, but could be made in the afternoon before, but lightly mist spray and loosely wrap in light plastic and place somewhere cool.

Can u mmake this how many days ahead?
@FlowerJoos6 жыл бұрын
Agusta Sister I would prefer to make it as close to the day required as possible - so on the morning it’s needed, or in the afternoon before. It depends as well on how hot the weather is and the quality of the flowers - how hydrated they are for example.

Hi John. I have come across another problem I have had for a while and it happened again today. When I put on the green tape I have to use a spot of hot glue so it sticks to the wire. I have seen many do it like you do but it wont work with me. It must be something i'm doing wrong. I bought the tape from a local florist. Thank you xx
@FlowerJoos6 жыл бұрын
Wendy Margaret Davies-Stead it could be a couple of things - old old tape is one, or when you start you need to pull the tape a little so it stretches - then it catches itself. Is your tape paper or plastic rubber?
@WendysCraftDen6 жыл бұрын
Hi John. Thank you for replying, I have no idea what it is sorry. I just went down the florist and asked for green tape, it is probably the most commonly used in floristry. I do stretch it but usually after I have stuck it on. Will try this later as I have a few flowers to make. Thank you xx

Can I use any wire?
@FlowerJoos7 жыл бұрын
Erika Rojas the wire I use are the rose wires - these are silver in colour, and you get a really thin one and a slightly thicker one that gives a bit more support. Generally it's better to use a stronger wire than you might think you need as it will go through the leaf or stem easier and provide more support.
@margaretherzik41896 жыл бұрын
what gauge wire
@FlowerJoos6 жыл бұрын
margaret herzik I am afraid I can’t remember - but it is a silver rose wire, so there is a couple of gauges in that. A really fine one, and one that has a little more strength. Both are good.
