As a fan who has not played the game, your insights help me be less "not smart" about what I'm seeing on the field. Thank you

I really appreciate the nuanced discussion about the second yellow. It's nice to hear from individuals who don't have skin in the game try to analyse from different point of views. Awesome episode again :)

Marta is the 🐐 for sure! I love the segment on her. Feels like every player that has faced her has a story like that (Alex Scott and Pernille Harder had similar stories in one of their IG lives), it’d be fun to see a collection of stories players have about playing with or against her - maybe an idea for a special segment during the Olympics (if Marta ends up playing). Plus, everything she’s done off the field as well. And she speaks with such passion.❤ love her. I still have hopes Sam will interview her some day

Sam is maybe one of my fave humans on the planet. For those whom havent seen 'So You Think You Know Sam' - stop everything and watch NOW. And can I just say that Lynn Williams is maybe the funniest and sharpest tack in the box. She is so quick. Fucking love them both! So happy this content is here! #Sammiebanananas #theChamp #TowerOFpower

Great episode. There were some incredible games this weekend - the chaos league remains in full swing. RE: Uwcl - I am you on the soft yellow. I think on its own, it could be accepted even if many don't believe it was a foul at all. That said, if a second yellow is going to be given, it has to be a sure yellow, like Lynn said. I don't disagree Barca were the better team in this game. Chelsea didn't put chances away, and Ramírez out was a huge miss for them. I will say, though, that the comment from the coach about managing emotions is quite funny, given Bonmati spent the whole week leading up to the second leg complaining about Chelsea, the official and calling them dirty. Pot meet the kettle, imo. Looking forward to another Sonia Bompastor masterclass finale 😉

It’s Marta and will be until an entire new era of the Women’s game is well under way, so we can revisit this question in another 20 years but until then it’s Marta.

About Buchanan's second yellow, I dont think the card was so much for the lunge and stepping on Patri's foot as for the following "knee-check" with the trailing leg. It made clear that it was a cynical foul which it is silly to make if you already have a yellow. I would be upset at Buchanan for risking so much, so stupidly in that part of the pitch but to me the yellow was clear.

Hello Sam and Lynn. Two WSL goals I thought you would mention this week, from Ella Toone to win the match and sixteen year old Everton player, Issy Hobson's equaliser against Arsenal, which was almost like a fairy tale winner. Interesting to hear about the time zones in US. I wondered if Hawaii would get a team eventually?

I think Lynn is wrong about the offsides rule. If a defender is over the end line, they are still counted as a defender ahead of attacking player for purpose of determining offsides. If an offensive player is over the endline and does not try to get back on, they cannot be called offsides. But a defender does not get a benefit of not being counted by hopping over the endline.

Planting tulip time is September to November. I find that tulips don’t seem to do well in containers, but it may be because we don’t have sufficient sunlight. Tulips need full sun.

As a fan, I paid to see 2 complete teams battle it out. Not 1 team vs a handicapped team. You did a terrible job if all people talk about from the game is the refereeing. I think the chelsea anguish is that cards were not given in the first half at all, then Buchanon was a scapegoat and no yellow issued to barcelona at all. Refereeing aside, I think chelsea lost the moment they lost their last #9 after no fishel or kerr. Beever Jones was too young to throw out there as a hail mary but maybe that would have been what the team needed. Barca and Lyon have a ton of trophies already, it would have been more refreshing to have PSG or chelsea win honestly.

The “over-saturation of FIFA tournaments in the USA” is misleading. There is no problem of fans buying tickets at the stadiums for all the events. There is no problem with venue availability, nor infrastructure, nor accessibility for TV and media. The problem is that the sponsors don’t want to spend money in the USA in 2027 after spending a ton of cash for the 2026 WC. Sponsors want to let the market respond to the advertising for a couple of years before dumping more money in that same market. Alternately, that money is wanted in the UEFA realm in 2027 more than the USA. That’s why USSoccer and the FMF repositioned their bid for 2031 - both federations knew they did not have the votes to win the 2027 bid

I wondered if the 2nd yellow wasn’t racist. She was the only Black on the pitch. I think that has to be considered.
@ckmeh99744 ай бұрын
But she wasn't the only POC on the pitch. There were maybe 5 others POC playing at the same time. The first yellow card was absolutely warranted. The second card was soft. That ref has a history of being card happy.
@rogermatthews27604 ай бұрын
@@ckmeh9974 Up to that point, I believe Macario was the only other and she’s a medium dark Brazilian of origin. What you miss is how the subtly of racism works, especially with, if I recall correctly, a Central or Eastern European ref who is prone to over judge, making a split second dealing with a dark skinned African. It’s a quite common phenomenon in everyday life, above all by people in authority, such as police. I obviously can’t know, but that’s why I wonder if racism didn’t come into play.
@ckmeh99744 ай бұрын
@@rogermatthews2760 I'm not saying the ref didn't have racial biases or whatever. It's always a possibility. but speculation that it's because of her race, because the player that was sent off happened to be POC is not very strong. If this referee's history showed that she called more fouls and cards on POC players, then that would show more of a pattern. Rather than an incident like this where other explanations could be the ref wanted barca to win (if you ask chelsea fans), the ref was on a power trip, the ref is simply bad at her job etc. Again it could very well be racial bias in there, but I usually try and give people benefit of the doubt and not assume stuff like that based off a singular decision in a game.
@rogermatthews27604 ай бұрын
@@ckmeh9974 I think you miss the subtlety of racist decision making, quite aside from whether it was the case here.
@ckmeh99744 ай бұрын
@@rogermatthews2760 mate did you read what I said. I said it could be, but it might also not be. We can't tell based on this 1 decision alone because I and I assume you haven't watched other games this referee took part in. You are assuming the worst of someone. I'm just not jumping to that conclusion based on one decision in a game. You are basing this only on the fact the person sent off happened to be a POC. You obviously are already set in your ways so there's no use.
