I find it sad society is at a point where you and JustJess feel a need to qualify your opinion with your being black. The OG cast's comments obviously had nothing to do with skin color. They had nothing to do with the new cast being female. I don't twitter so I'm not privy to any of the follow up interactions save what was presented here, but from what I've seen, the OG's criticisms have *nothing* to do with the new cast at all. I myself am tired of sequels, remakes, and reboots. Make the show, make the movie, use the basic premise and formula, use different actors...And give it another name. For example, the new "Magnificent Seven". Good film. Denzell was great in it. But beyond it having 7 main characters, being a western, and having a big battle at the end, it really bore little resemblance to the original. Same with "True Grit". Jeff Bridges was great, but he wasn't Rooster Cogburn. They don't all fail, but most do.

The show should just have a different name cause it has nothing to do with the original to be a reboot. Not even some reboots use the exact name of their original shows. "That's So Raven" to "Raven's Home" and "Full House" to "Fuller House" . If you're going to make a remake or reboot, don't use to exact name. Especially when it's a whole different cast. Maybe Charmed Again, Power Of Three,...... or something around that. I think if Aaron Spelling was alive, they would have talked to him about if first and not have used the "Charmed" name. Plus, if you're gonna have a reboot/remake, don't the new cast and crew and creator converse with the originals. Talk what to do, how they gonna go about it. So they wouldn't have the problem that is going on now. Holly and Rose don't have a problem with the girls or the way the show is, they just don't like the fact that it's under the "Charmed" name.

"Raven's Home" is actually a good show. It also respects the original. I don't know whether the new "Charmed" is any good or not, I didn't even know it existed until last night. I also didn't really care for the original and watched very few episodes. I agree with Sarah as far as them being catty, but there was no call or evidence from what I've seen to bring skin color into it. I guess that's just the in thing to do these days.

The show could have had promised bit it was done fast, arches was not layed out and half ass connected, killing everybody with no connection to the audience, forcing a white lighter and witch triangle/square relationship that didn't have any build up and chemistry, etc. Also they had ass squeezing in four to five seasons of Charmed in the first season of the reboot..no. The writers and producers suck laying out a story, and everybody was touching the book of shadows the history of their blood line was barely learned at all

I ageee with Rose. The new show definitely used the “Charmed” legacy and the huge following to promote their new show. They did not portray any creativity of their own. They used the entire “lore” & “world” that is Charmed (Whitelighters, elders etc.) without acknowledging where it all came from. They should NOT have used the same name. Maybe call it Charmed To Be, or Charmed: A New Destiny. We must give the original Charmed it’s place in history. The new show is not a reboot, it’s more of a spin-off.

it is a reboot, because it is the same plot but the characters are different. that is also the reason why the OGs cannot guest in this show, because it's not a sequel or a spin-off. a spin-off would mean it is connected from the original universe, but no. the new show is in a different universe. the characters of prue, piper, phoebe and paige cannot exist here because there should be only one power of three per universe. the power of three cannot be passed on, there is only one power of three. that's why they made it a reboot so they can create new characters. i am a fan of the OG (i am 37) and i'd rather have a reboot than a spinoff or sequel where piper, phoebe and paige are just background characters to make way for the main new characters. BUT i agree though to comments saying they should've just renamed the show since it's a reboot like added a subtitle (eg Charmed - Legacy lol). i think many OG fans hate the new show because they were expecting the resemblance from the original show, but heck, the new show is trying so hard to sway away from the OG to make their own mark (honestly season 2 feels like they are part of the MCU already!) which I don't get. If they wanted so hard to stay away from the original show then what's the point of rebooting it, other than milking from the glory of the original show. and so there, my friend, is why the show sucks just how rose pointed it out.

Then maybe the spirit board could speak to them through one of the sisters. They could call an astral rendition of Paige when she was 30 (since we watched the sisters grow old in the last episode of the original, she would have love to be c be plucked out of her time, like Lady Godiva or future Wyatt) ) & she could have helped them finish off the threat. She could return with the, “A time for everything and to everything it’s place, return what has been moved through time and space.” Or, whenever they need help, they could call on the old power of three, since they have a witchly connection. The show was updated with women of color obviously, but Rose McGowan's opinion of the show not being as good as the original has absolutely nothing to do with the ethnicities of the women playing the roles. It is the responsibility of the writer(s) to make an updated version of something either better or as good as the original. If the show had been rebooted with white women again it would still be unwatchable TO ME, and maybe not everyone else because of the poor production value. Here’s the truth, while the race card should not have been played, having harsh criticism on something you haven’t seen stemming from anger that truly needs to be directed at Netflix should not have been a thing. Being an OG doesn’t give you a pass from being checked. And because you are of color and someone doesn’t like what you do, doesn’t mean that it stems from racism. As a performer myself, any work that I do is out of not just a money grab but a grab at being able to do what I love to do and hope that it is successful. There was a way to express their anger at being pushed aside instead of sharing the space on the streaming network. It clearly couldn’t have sucked so bad if their getting a new season. The show is different and caters to a new audience. That is the point of remakes and reboots. Young mama’s shouldn’t have responded either. The OG cast were being immature in the way they handle this , but they weren't wrong to be upset. The new charmed is a slap in the face to the original cast and fans. The new cast do take the criticism too sensitive. If they were fans of the original show they would understand the hated is because of the fact that the only thing they took from the orginial show was the powers, the secret child put up for adoption and the mother dying. The "page" character even admitted in an interview that she never even watched the orginial series. You don't make a reboot and don't give the orginial the respect they derserved.

I’m with McGowan. I’m sorry but the OG had an amazing charm that made it fun for a lot of people regardless of race, gender or social backgrounds. It was just good television that made you forget about real life and allowed you to kick some demon ass every week. The new Charmed it felt cheap. That’s the only way I could accurately describe the feeling after watching it. I watched the whole 1st season. And it didn’t grab me like the OG did. They took a pretty thought out mythology and brutalized it. Were there aspects of the reboot I enjoyed yes but I couldn’t get over the horriffic s/l , bastardized mythology, and SJW BS. They OG collectively had engaging s/l, SJW that wasn’t brow beaten into the audience and a pretty thought out mythology. That’s what disappointing. Something doesn’t ring true about Rose’s apology to me. In her original comment, she says that the SHOW sucks (even though she hadn’t seen it). She didn’t mention the creators, the company, or anything like that. She specifically mentions the show.... But In her apology she mentions how this reboot is a money grab profiting off of her hard work (I say her because no one else seems to be bothered by the reboot). While I agree that Rose’s comments weren’t racist (I also agree with her view on reboots in general) it just seems as though Rose is backpedaling, instead of just acknowledging that her original comments were vague and disheartening. She can never acknowledge her own faults or her own actions. She just constantly blames other people (mind you, I am not referring to her sexual abuse and am not victim blaming here), without taking any responsibility for her own actions. She could have simply apologized that her words were vague and therefor could be misinterpreted. Instead it’s a “sorry you felt that way, but your misinterpreting what I had to say.” Just doesn’t seem right in my opinion. After years of dealing with deceptive people, you start to notice their actions as opposed to their empty words.

Rose’s comments were nothing but a backhanded response to cover her backside. The original Charmed was good, but it wasn’t like you were The West Wing or True Blood (a supernatural show actually worthy that received critical acclaim). The film and tv industry is hard enough to maneuver as a young women without actresses who have been more established careers (Holly) coming after them for things out of their control. Textbook definition of the word is: to produce a DISTINCTLY NEW version of (an established media franchise, as a film, TV show, video game, or comic book). Growing up I was a charmed enthusiast , watched it everyday when the reruns came on and even still have all the box sets. I thought the new charmed would be just as good but it seems to me that they rush the storyline too much and didn’t really go In depth with the new version of the Charmed ones.

I lost so much respect for McGowan. The reboot wasn't for me, I quit after 3 episodes but I'm sure back in 1998 a 35 year old did the same thing with the original, despite 13 year old me loving it, and I'm sure a 13 year old now loves the new show. Let's be honest there's way more programs on TV and other platforms than the 90s, it's easier to give up on a show. Anyway if her beef is with the producers then call them out, to call out the show entirely thats promoting diversity is racially insensitive. I won't say based on this she's racist but the way she said it was a stretch implying Jeffrey is playing the race card really shows her priviledge. I dont throw the privledge card around a lot but dame ther response irked me. I remember when the show was debuting and they tried to sell it as a female empowering show, I understood Comb's anger because it implied the original didn't do that. I liked the original a lot but it was no masterpiece, it jumped the shark for me when they introduced magic school, clearly playing on the Harry Potter craze. Also, it did get a lot of flack for being considered a cheap copy of The Craft, even using The Smith's "How soon is now?" as the theme. Reboots if done correctly are great, so the criticism on reboots in general was a lame way to excuse her biased judgment. If you watch enough TV and movies, you can see reboots all the time and the reboots can become classics.

I think both shows are amazing. As a black man, I didn't like Sara Jeffery making this into a race thing. In addition, every show has been repeated or reinterpret in some way. McGowan should take this as compliment. After all, Charmed is heavily influence by the film The Craft.

I think Sarah overeacted. I agree with Rose and Holly that it sucks. Again not the people that are playing in it but the story itself, the characters the way they are written. I adored Sarah in ,,Descendents" i like the way she sings, however I do not understand from where she got the idea that Rose and Holly are hitting in women of color. I am a huge fan of the old Charmed, I was very excited when I heard about the reboot, I watched it but I was very disappointed, my intrest was vanished, killed, doomed. Again it is not about the people who are playing in it, I think they are the only ones that are doing an amazing job, it is the story, the way the characters are written. Sarah we live in a free world, so due to this reason, people are entitled to their opinions, meaning to like or dislike your show. I loved the OG cast. However I'm not proud of how they acted. They "said the show sucked" yet never watched it. Shows get rebooted every year with new cast members. I personally love the new Charmed. I know a lot of people were disappointed as fans of the original but I literally never watched it until the other day (only the first episode). Of course, I understand why OG fans aren't happy with the new show, but I feel like the OG cast could literally have mentioned beforehand that it's an issue with the producers and stuff that they have a problem with, of course not the current cast. You can't blame Sarah for getting upset, although I do agree that it was a stretch that it had anything to do with race. (But from her personal experience as a black woman, it may feel like that, even if it wasn't intended that way). But for Rose to say it sucks without watching it is what the issue is (of course I understand why she wouldn't but the comment is unnecessary). If she said it was about the creators to begin with, it wouldn't be such a big deal.

One could argue that Sarah Jeffery's "putting down women of colour" bit was a stretch. But you gotta admit that, when it comes to diversity and representation, the OG Charmed didn't put much effort. Take for instance Darryl, the only POC main character of the show. Despite being a MAIN character for 7 seasons, he was criminally under-used and under-developped. Dorian Gregory is a great actor and he did the best he could with what he was given. Unfortunately, he wasn't given much to work with.
