As a result of a present-buying miscommunication, DJ receives two SNES game consoles for his 11th birthday, yet it's Roseanne and Dan we see playing on it. All the chirps, beeps and tuneful ditties would suggest they got the Super Mario bundle.

I love seeing these old sitcoms referencing stuff like video games. The writers were so out of touch with gaming back then and it shows how new they were to adults at the time. They'd mostly just say some nonsense gaming lingo while adding gaming music or sound effects while pretending to play lol. The music is the title screen from Super Mario World. There are no skeletons unless you count the Dry Bones enemies or gore. It hardly plays like the Sega "hedgehog" game and there's no space shoot-em-up death crashing sounds. And there's no swords or monkeys or queens over them in SMW. But there's something kinda wholesome about Dan Connor vibing to the Super Mario World title screen theme.

It's bizarre to imagine the producers assumed this would be interpreted as sufficiently authentic by the kids fixated on the games alluded to. This being a family show, it wasn't enough to hoodwink the parents. Yet it was all given the green light.
