Reality, then don't get better with age. They will stain, show rim marks veg tan does not absorb much so any sweating from a glass will spill over and seep threw. If you live in a hot climate all that water will lead to mold if not dried out even if the leather has a top coat seal. Leather coasters only really work as you showed them in good dry conditions. I've been making them for decades, plain, tooled and engraved, I use them and replace them about every 3yrs.

NB 574 are the only shoes that do not cause a lot of foot pain for me while walking miles and miles. I have arthritis in both feet and it is firm enough and also soft enough and most importantly WIDE enough. They don’t have grommets that push into tender foot bits. I've been absolutely raving about NB for the past 3 years since I got the More Foam V3. I've gotten 3 more NB shoes since then purely because of absolutely how insanely comfortable their foam is and the wide toe box. The wide toe box is CRIMINALLY underrated when buying these shoes. Coming from Nike, it was night and day difference. I've got really bad flat feet so combining that with a wide feet, NB was the perfect fit. Spacious, cushiony, and not to mention absolutely killing it in the shoe design game. You can't beat NB from their lifestyle everyday shoes, running shoes, and their marathon shoes.

The Made in UK materials are solid but the build quality is very shoddy. I bought a pair of MIUK 991s and there were a bunch of issues. Glue stains, misaligned panels, the 991 stitching on the heel of one of my shoes was off center. I did some research and the anecdata says that this is not a rare occurrence. I decided not to return because I was afraid that the replacement pair would be worse and I needed everyday beaters. Very disappointing for the price point. I've never had a problem with MIUSA pairs.

Been wearing 574s since high school and they've always been on-point. And yes, the wide toebox was the kicker for me back then, and still is w the Legacy series update.

My girlfriend gave me a pair of these for my birthday and it’s my most used pair of shoes, goes well with a lot of outfits and super comfortable and very very breathable and light, definitely a thumbs up from me! 👍🏽

I fell in love with the original USA-made 993s and bought up some new old stock from an online seller after they were discontinued. It looks like it's been revived now, but I haven't bought a pair of new ones to compare with my old stock. I'll have to snag a pair of 574s at some point to compare. That wide toe box is attractive, and I look for shoes with that now. I don't love wearing shoes, and grew up going barefoot even when exploring the woods and blazing trails with a machete. I've always been picky, and now that I understand it better, wide shoes with a wide toe box and _just enough_ arch support seem to be what I was always trying to find.

I've become an NB head in the last 5 years. My oldest pair looks a little beat up but the outsole and upper are in great shape and while I'll need an insole due to the inside being well worn, those shoes will last me 10 years. Perfect shape for my wide feet. Most comfy sneakers I've owned, I niw have several. NB is my only sneaker now.

The NB 574 is the only sport shoe I have used in the last 20 years. I have bought many of them. It is beautiful, super comfortable, not that soft, wide, durable… I have transitioned to barefoot shoes so I do not use them that much but they are still in my arsenal.

This has been the one constant sneaker in my life since my teenage years. I always have at least one pair of 574s somewhere in the closet.

New Balance is my favourite sneakers brand, bought about 20 pairs, currently have about 10 pairs and it never disappoints

I used to collect 574s, besides Palladiums, they're just the most comfortable sneakers I've every worn. Back in the 90's they also let long baggy pants drop in a way that the back of the cuffs wouldn't drag as much on the ground.

Had mine for already 3 years, been on a field trips, occasional jogs, at work (I work in retail), and sometimes to theme parks. These shoes are awesome, I got mine in a size 8.5 EE, n for a shoe to little to no foam, they are the most comfortable shoe I ever worn!!!

I wear my New Balance 574s and 9060s pretty much 50/50 throughout the week for about the last year. Through this side-by-side perspective, I can confidently say that the 574 is the most comfortable shoe I've ever owned, especially after it is broken in. I even prefer it to my Brooks, which I previously thought was going to be peak comfort (and the 574 was nearly $60 cheaper both my Brooks and 9060s).

Absolutely love my New Balance 574’s. I’m also a big Lems guy (I have 6 pairs!) so for me it’s a combo of lems and New Balances for the sneakers. I always buy the wide width in New balance to give even more room.

Encap is a harder polyurethane circular heel pad surrounding a softer EVA foam. They insert these into their standard EVA foam. That's why you identified three different foam densities. This was one of New Balances' signature techologies back in the 1980s. The 574 was a decent basic running shoe but a little heavy and clunky compared to sleeker and lighter Nike, Puma, Asics and Adidas running shoes. The nearest equivalent was probably Saucony. They offered a D width, 2E width and 4E width in many of their running shoes which made New Balance popular with the people with wider feet.

I haven't tried the 574 but I love the New Balance 9060. it's the most comfortable sneakers I've ever worn but its does wear out pretty fast and even then it's still pretty good

Can confirm these are great, had loads over the years. My favourite shoe of all is the Asics Gel Lyte 3, love that they have no tongue, ultra comfy and last ages. Be a good one to test. Also mad colours are available.
