Nice work. You can get a little latch to hold that storage bay door open. It will allow you to use both hands to load things into the storage compartment. Walkie Talkies really make the job easier. My wife is deaf, so we have worked out hand signals for the backing up to the hitch procedure. Off You Go

I saw in this video that you bought a pair of walkie-talkies to communicate with. I had to laugh as I am from the same age group, but how about using your cell phones instead? If my wife were still alive I might have done the same thing. Don't feel bad, I grew up with phones attached to the wall, too.

Richard thanks for the reply. Yes cell phones can be used for this. At this park our cell phones don't work well. They are T Mobile. We do recommend walkie talkies in case this happens. Both of us did grow up with wired phones. We are in our sixties but we are still learning and camping.

@@RosebudsTravels I admit I had not thought of that. I stand contritely corrected. We are all learning!

I am a 30 year veteran crane operator very experienced with radio signals. You do not want to use a cell phone to signal. There is a slight delay on a cell phone that slight delay when inching back might not stop you in time and cause an accident. A walkie-talkie is definitely Way to go. There are some basic truck driver tight hand signals for backing up a vehicle to a hitch. For instance you must be signaling the driver from the driver side have the mirror adjusted have the signal person even with the ball have your two hands up motioning in a circular motion with all of your fingers out when you get close stop them before you get to the spot you think you need to be under the ball within a foot put your hands out and Signal with your hands approximately 1 foot apart. Symbolizing the 1 foot distance from the ball of the vehicle to the hitch. Now with both hands flat and rotating back you inch back the vehicle that last foot as you get closer your hands get closer together. When the ball is under the hitch of the trailer the clap your hands together meaning stop. If they win an inch too far. Use your pointer finger and thumb and signal 8 inch in point the direction you want to go without verbally commanding. When they do the pull ahead you put your hands back apart slightly apart and clap them together when the ball is directly under the hitch. Measure with a tape measure to the top of your ball then measure to the bottom of your hitch have the hitch two or 3 inches higher than the ball not 14 inches like in the video. The hand signals can be practiced in a parking lot without the camper put a pylon out and back the car up tight to the pylon. That way you don’t don’t your bumper or license plate. Or your fancy hatchback. With a little practice simulation and the pylon you can keep the yelling at a minimum. And it usually gives your partner a bit of confidence instead of being nervous near the camper trailer. I like your use of radios there are verbal commands also. Using a radio you never on cue the mic when the tow vehicle is approaching the hitch. You keep the mic open and continually talk and paint a picture!! Coming back for more feet looking good 2 feet looking good one feet slow down “all stop” two words all stop cannot be confused with anything else. We use that when setting turbine within millimeters of tolerances. Rehearse it with your radio and practice with the hitch adjusted just above the height of the ball come on back come on back come on back to my back hold that or give distances. I like come on back 10 feet keep coming looking good come on back nice and easy now you’re getting close 2 inches. “All stop” hold that I’m going to adjust the height to see if it meets up with the ball. You need to pull ahead a quarter inch only a quarter inch. In the Crane industry we use clean clear precise commands. If you need the ball to the left or right you say pull ahead 1 foot to the left or to the right now straight back looking good and go back through the sequence to stop safely. “All stop” what confuses people the most I think is what way to tell the driver that the ball Hass to be positioned when you’re off left or right. Use the drivers left or right and tell them to pull ahead a little bit and position the ball to your right 4 inches. Or 2 inches. Like I said it’s a good idea to practice with a pylon or something similar. I hope what I wrote here makes sense I’m not a writer.. Your videos are very informative they were a big help!! I’m looking to get a few more RV items mainly sewer line things. And I would love to find a set of those black chocks I have one of the red ones but I’m missing the small piece I’m going to make a piece out of wood until I find the red piece my nephew has it in his fifth wheel. He gave me the big Red wedge with the holes through it those things aren’t cheap!! I hope to put the big wedge and a little wedge together as a set someday but we just haven’t crossed paths at the right time. The black chocks look like they be very handy. I have a cheap set of yellow ones from Wally World. Take care of yourselves I would love to hear more stories about your travels!! When I retire I’m going to travel to United States by myself. Unless I find someone that wants to go with me! That someone will probably be a rescue dog!! As soon as I retire I’m going to rescue a small to medium size dog. Until then I need to suffer without a dog because I travel for a living and work long days at work. Safe travels!!!
