When I went to Singapore there's guards that just stand around the shopping malls holding assault rifles, and honestly it makes you feel way more safe because you know Singapore doesn't tolerate crime and it's not a corrupt country.

I mean everything aside, your gun laws don't quite give confidence even as a tourist. I have been to the US multiple times but recently when I visited Texas (I know Texas, just wanted to explore the country, big mistake), I was just terrified with the amount of guns I saw. ngl, never gonna go back there. edit: ngl after Trump the nation has gone a tad bit crazy (both Democrats and Republicans). More number of racist ppl are surfacing and more number of Karens are also being spotted in the wild. not to mention women have things like Tazer a Pepper Spray for such stuff and even with guns, a handgun is more than enough for safety, but I have seen everything there, from Rifle to an automatic/semi-automatic machine gun (I don't know what it was), I think only thing I haven't seen there was a fking SNIPER, but I won't be suprised if there are ppl with SNIPERS too.

Counter argument... look how few shootings happen in every other country aside from the US. US has more shooting deaths annually than some active war zones and the bulk of the unstable third world. Combine every other developed country on the planet and you get a fraction of the shooting deaths, most resulting from organized crime (gang on gang). Mass shootings in Canada typically involve weapons illegally smuggled in from the US. You don't need armed civilians to stop shootings, you need prospective shooters not to be armed. It also cuts down on police shootings (since cops don't have to be quite as on-edge/jumpy about every traffic stop potentially turning into a life threatening situation for them). America DOES have a gun problem. There's a reason nobody else (bar Israel... which has its own apparent issues and mostly got that way due to the internal perception it was liable to be invaded from all sides at any time) has gun laws like the US... the "right to bear arms" is a dated relic from an era where musket bearing militias were a necessary first response for national defense. They really hadn't anticipated modern means of communication, vehicular travel, or things like ARs.
