Hi Mell, a bit late to the video. Great cover as always man :D !! On a second note, wanna ask a bit about your opinion on that Ormsby you played in the video. How is it compared to the likes of Ibanez J. custom 7 string? I'm looking into buying a new guitar and in two minds between Ormsby and Ibanez. The multi-scale looks cool and doesn't sound bad at all. What's your take on this? Secondly, what do you think about a rosewood vs ebony fretboard? Does it make any difference at all? Thank you so much. Kinda inappropriate to post these questions here but ... I'll take my chance :P

hi Ngunen, any comments would be welcome! Ormsby's mass production models price less than Ibanez J custom by about 1,000USD. So let's say simply J customs are better. The biggest difference is about hardware. Ibanez' are just perfect, on the other hand Ormsby has a little stiff switches. In other parts, Ibanez uses solid 4mm-thick figured maple on tops. It matters if you are an wood lover! In other perspectives like fret edges and finishes, there ARE differences but not a very big deal for me. Fretboards, IMO, I prefer ebony with two reasons bellow; one, black color looks cooler, and face dots or MOP inlays would look clearly in black. But this will be OK with a dark colored rosewood. two, ebony tend to be closer-grained compared to rosewood. I like the touch. If you drop your fret polish on the ebony fretboard, it won't sink inside much lol

@@MellLaurant thank you for the great insight. I'm kinda new to this whole "wood and hardware" thing so i'm doing a bit of researchs before making the decision. I watched your custom Overload video and it gave me lots of ideas about the specs that I may want in a guitar since I really like your style. You also use ebony fretboard too, so I guess that's the way to go haha. Keep rocking !!

@@NguyenTran-eo9cl Good to hear that! I would recommend Mayones too if in the budget!

@@MellLaurant Yea, I was looking at Skervesen and Mayones too, and I really love that "tight" sound they produce with the bareknuckles PU (from your "simple guitar comparison" video). Their price, as you said, really turns me off haha. Thing is I'm playing a S-series Ibanez so I'm more familiar with its specs and don't wanna stray too far away from the super thin neck, and I just love the aesthetic look/Tree-of-life inlay of J-custom. But idk, we'll see haha. Also, how do you compare a bolt-on of a Duvell and a neck-through of a Regius?
@MellLaurant3 жыл бұрын
@@NguyenTran-eo9cl Then a j-custom seems the best! Not a technically high spec-ed guitar but just a cool looking guitar drives you to play guitar for hours...in my case tho I don't think neck-thru is better than bolt-ons. Just in case you brake the neck, you can replace easily. Neck-thru used to be more expensive(seems harder to build actually), but not for now...it doesn't really matter for me!
