Thank you for sharing your experience with these brushes. I'm having an eye on a brush like the "extended round" brush for a while but didn't buy it yet. I think it is supposed to be a liner brush with a bigger reservoir than a regular liner. So you just use the longer bristles and don't have to dip that often in your paint. I would be interested in your future experience with it :-)

I would agree--I think the intended purpose of these "pointed rounds" is to be used as a large-reservoir rigger. Allowing you to paint fine lines longer between re-charging the brush. I LOVE my riggers, but sometimes they can get frustrating with their lack of ability to hold a lot of paint...

Hi Eileen! The so-called extended round is used as a liner, as kromafila pointed out. Da Vinci Brushes named theirs a ceramic brush (?). I’d love to try them one day.

Yes it does work like that. I still haven't had a chance to properly use it, though. It's red sable. It was really just a spontaneous purchase to go along with the travel brushes that I really wanted. I'm loving the large round that I got. I think they might be called ceramic brushes because of the industry who use them. I know Rosemary and Co started out supply the ceramics industry. Maybe Da Vinci does too?

Thanks for sharing the extended round brush. I came for a closer look at that brush shape because I had just seen Schaller paint tree foliage with what I think is the same shape. You may find it interesting, too. It starts at 18:20 here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jaPJm6Frf9-NeaM Thanks, again!

Oooh that is really interesting! Love that and thank you so much. I do a lot of trees in my work so that will be handy.

@@eileenreillyarts1229 I think I would feel inclined to *pull* a stroke with that extended round brush. But in the video, Mr. Schaller *pushes* most of his strokes. Since I don't yet own the brush you have, I tried pushing strokes with the long liner brush I do have. It was a huge improvement to what I had been painting. Will try the same with other brushes, too. I'm looking forward to trying that extended round for this and other techniques. Thanks for showing such a detailed close-up of it. Cheers!

I've never owned or used a pointed round. And after seeing the way they react in your video, I don't think this is a brush I need. I find that splaying very unsatisfying and it looks like it would just frustrate me. Thanks for saving me some money on a purchase I most likely would have been unhappy with!

I actually just read an article that called it a tracer brush by them or as another viewer said a liner. The full part of the brush is meant to hold a lot of pigment (unlike say a rigger) and transfer to the fine tip part so it's really for decoration and fine detail.

Too bad rosemary & Co travel brushes are so fat barreled. Otherwise I'd buy some. I've been lucky enough to find travel brush sets, both in natural hair and synthetic hair, less expensive in a set than one rosemary & Co brush. Plus their barrels are nice and thin. They feel no different in the hand than studio brushes. Which I like. Add to that I can get 5 for the price of one rosemary &Co, well that just can't be beaten.

If I didn't already have travel brushes I would go for a set too but I was after a larger brush. The metal "case/cover" tends to be appropriate to the size of the brush head. They are beautifully made so I'm pleased with them.
