Nice review Scott! Looks like I have some stiff competition in the "Chocolate That's Included with Art Brushes" review category. Thanks for the shout out!

Wind River Arts sells Rosemary from Texas. Shipping would be closer to eight dollars? (variable) but a fraction of England source, but no swag and no Rosemary dog photos.

Scott, great review bu I have one comment on the pure sables you got. Those you have are liner brushes. They are not meant for mixing color or blending. They are for fine lines. Like if you had a long thin line, not really found in portrait type painting. I have been using Rosemary brushes for land scapes, stil lifes, whih I use different types of brushes by Rosemary,and some portrait work, where I do use her rounds for many years. You might say before they were cool.. I would like to suggest you try her Series 99 Pure Sables. These are wonderful brushes like all of her products. I swear by them.Coming from a South Texas painter. 😀

I was going to say the same thing, these are sable rigger or liner brushes, for fine lines or your signature, something where you need fine control and for the brush to hold a good amount of paint so you can do a long, continuous stroke. He should have tried the sable in a regular round, same as the synthetics he got.

I just ordered the Rosemary & Co. Master's Choice Oil Paint Brush Set (11 brushes). I like realism and high detail, and I hope that they work well for me...

Thank you for this review, will have to try synthetic round brushes! I definitely like Rosemary synthetic bristle filbert brushes for underpainting and they hold form well after been used many times, and filbert sable or ebony, also filbert, for blending. But for everything else usually buy less expensive ones from the local art store.

Great review, thanks! Did a little research and it seems the three short handle brushes are series 313 Golden Nylon? Wind River Arts in Texas carries a large selection of Rosemary brushes very reasonably priced. The 313 series aren't on the their website but you can order them by phone, don't be surprised when an actual person answers! $8-ish shipping, not sure about the chocolate.

I love Rosemary’s Brushes, but I am a Brit, so the cost is very reasonable here. Ivory and Evergreen are my favourite for oils.

it's reasonable in US too. Brushes are 9 dollars, shipment makes it a little more but 31 dollars total.

Hi Scott I have always wondered ,,what kind of brushes do you use for your portraits….this video came as ordered..😃I use the Rosemary brushes for landscape painting and use the ones from Michael James Smith landscape Artist..and I really can say these brushes are very useful..(they really do make a difference and use them now for about four years..)..you always said you use just simple synthetic brushes..I now work on a large painting with figures in it and really need the ones you use 🤔(by following your tutorials)now looking at your video until the end I just knew these would be the ones you would like.. (the nylon classic rounds)so happy to have seen your video …bye Scott..happy painting from Croatia..!😃👋

Thank you for this review. The assortment and cost is surprising, large on the former and reasonable on the latter. . I am liking the Rosemary Sable "Spotters" and the Sable "Brights". That rigger you were using is for long lines like details on carriage wheels and, as someone said, tree limbs.

yes, they are very good quality, durable and consistent; the best, at least in europe. I live on the continent so shipping is not a problem for me even with brexit. they also have a nice PR policy with customers. The workhorse for me is the ivory flat series (the ideal brush for me). Also use tischler's hog bristles for under-painting/rapid first layer and eclipse long flat series for thick strokes/details.

Sables: I find them really useful on very smooth surfaces, like panels with grounds that have been scraped or sanded flat. Nylon and Taklon brushes are too prone to lifting paint on that sort of surface, and sable brushes totally don't. I typically stick with Kolinsky sables, despite the price, because they have a good amount of snap to them where regular red sable brushes tend to be sort of... limp. On a textured surface like linen, though, sables are less good and I'd typically just stick with synthetics.
@seahawk1002 жыл бұрын
Heya, Scott! Have you tried the sables for blending? I've heard that sables work well for this, but have not yet tried it.
@sanhasenteredthechat79012 жыл бұрын
Sables are generallly perfect for the final stages and blending because of the nature of the hair is very soft. Hog hairs perfect for laying down the first marks because they have flags on each bristle, sort of like a split end, which caters to anyone who wants to load more paint on their brush. Also, Rosemary co do “mundy mops” they aren’t sable but good for blending too.
@AD2704792 жыл бұрын
Want me to tell you something that will make you give Rosemary several marks down? I got a set of brushes from Rosemary last month... & got 6 chocolates.

So I know next to nothing about oil painting and only a bit about watercolor but I was under the impression that sable brushes were great for watercolor or ink work so maybe thats why you don't like them? I don't know though, I mostly watch your videos to throw suction cup darts at my monitor while your talking as a way to relieve some of the boredom here at work. Enjoy your videos man, keep it up.

Thanks for the review Scott, was curious about these. Actually admired that about you that every artist seems to be enthralled by Rosemary brushes and you always have a whatever works stance on your tools, doesn't matter if it's not the highest end. You've made incredible works without them but it's good to know they're quality brushes and their longevity is a cut above. A note on sable though, I'm pretty sure it's illegal to buy sable in the US, I'm surprised you managed to get them shipped to you. 😅
