Don't think I would ever buy one, but it looks like easy to DIY from an old worn out round brush. Just tap a small nail in the center to push the hairs out.

😱 Omigosh, I never knew there was a brush like this on the market!! I took an old size 24 round brush that had seen better days and snipped the tip off blunt, then bent down the outer hairs and cut the middle section much shorter to form this exact brush shape! It is a God send for painting dandelions in a grassy field, or the light whisps of animal fur that stick up from the edges of their coat. It's also amazing to use for adding irregular patterns of shading, such as the dappled pattern you see when sunlight filters through tree branches onto a hard surface, like the side of a building or a cement sidewalk. Thank you so much for sharing this! 🙏😊 I must have missed the original video, so heading back to watch that now to see if I missed any other treasures.

Oh that's a great idea! Dappled or filtered light...but also dappled light shadows from the moon or street lights/lamp posts filtering from the trees for night time scenes. That is beyond extremely helpful. Been thinking about how to do those street lights filtering through the trees branches and leaves for months now! It makes such a beautiful but also complex pattern of light to capture. What a wonderful tip! Thank you!

It does, Fu Baoshi used a similar brush for doing those kind of strokes. It was an old calligraphy brush which was cut at the tip once used and stiffened with time. The landscapes he painted using this brush are just breathtaking and worth checking out imho.

I know this brush would be great for dry brushing. I have been on a brush binge lately. Turn the brush on its side all the way, like literally lay the brush down and roll it across your page. Try it both semi wet loaded and also dry. Also from your video I can see it would make great ripple water effects. Also can be used for stippling of course. I wonder how it throws paint and how it would splatter too? Also if you haven't already try using it on a angle so not all the bristles touch the paper.. only half of the bristles and see what marks that makes. Also try rolling it to with this same side angle. Try loading it with multiple different colors on opposite or opposing ends of the brush to get multiple pigments. Try using it like this various ways. Pre Wet your paper with water or try over a dry or almost dry wash etc. I think this could possibly be used for hair, grass, foliage, rocks, trees and reflections. I am currently adding to my brush collection and picked up some great ones from temu, which I could not believe. This week I will be looking for another dagger sword and other special brushes. And of course picking up some more of my favorite Japanese calligraphy and sumi ink brushes. Which are the best brushes ever besides hake brushes and quill mops. Give me a nice long sturdy rigger, a quill mop brush that holds its point, a spray bottle, a hake brush or if I'm working really small a nice calligraphy brush and I can paint anything. I also love fan brushes on occasion for special effects and textures. I find them very versatile. Flat brushes I find pretty useless and not organic looking. At least for landscapes. Do you have at least one hake brush? If not please get one soon! I recommend the Ron Ranson small hake brush. Affordable and good quality. 😊 You have a nice brush collection. Please share what are your favorite and most used could not live or paint without brushes. Also what are your favorite brushes for different textures of all sorts? If you do not mind sharing of course. You could also make a video about it if you have not already. I have no art colleagues to discuss pigments, brushes or art in general so sorry about the essay's. In my own way i also paint in hiding. And thank you for bringing this brush to my attention! ❤

I went back and read the description of how to use again and now I think I see what the designer means. @@PaintinHiding I received both the size 8 and 10 brushes yesterday and tried them out on black paper with doutone/colorshifting paints. It's trickier than I thought. I'll probably try metallic/shimmering paints for a while and develop some techniques. And then I check Rosemary & Co's website and they are completely out of stock of both brush sizes. Boy, the lengths they go to to not have a sale. I was lucky to get my order when I did.

Yeah, the first time I’ve heard of this brush was from your other video! I love the rope/hollow tube pattern made when using it vertically. I have no idea what I would use such a brush for though, besides cool geometric shapes and patterns! 😅 Ok, I guess it’s great for foliage. PS: I love the way you do the tree trunks… Mine are always so ‘dead’ and artificial… Definitely going to try that :P Ok… I love the tubular effect too much… I gotta add this to my wishlist >

Hi, Vee! Thanks for showing us this brush. I love the tube-like shapes. The second tree is lovely, but it can be done with ordinary brushes. I absolutely love the last one. My conclusions: I thoroughly enjoyed watching you play with this brush, and the music was absolutely spot on for a relaxing, peaceful ten minutes as you did so. Again, thank you. As for the brush? The swirls would be fun, but how often would I want to do those? Probably not enough to buy it, although it's tempting, but I've been achieving trees and bushes with good round brushes and the occasional use of a stiff fan brush or a flat, for the last 28 years... and if can do it, so could anyone else. But really, we don't need all these gimmicky brushes. All we need is to play with the rounds and flats we already have, with varying wetness of paint, to discover a whole world of shapes, sizes, textures... Thanks again for doing this video! 🤗
