@14:25 Truly Breathtaking. That was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen after the Pawn Diamond, in which the King defended every pawn around it, with the Knight to move around and attack as well as the Bishop. White was completely powerless when the forward Rook was pinned to the King after the tried to stop mate in 1. It allowed Black's C pawn to get in the White King's face and the King literally had to step aside and allow the pawn to march up the C file to promote to Queen with the powerless Rook pinned and unable to stop it's advance. Thank you for that video and gameplay. Shine on you crazy diamond.. (Pink Floyd song reference).

You said you were down the exchange, but doesn't 3 pawns and a bishop for a rook put you up +1?
@lucianoariasduval3 жыл бұрын
Yes, but he is still down the exchange, aka rook for a minor piece. The material balance is 3 pawns for the exchange (+1).
@Dubanx3 жыл бұрын
@@lucianoariasduval I mean, the pawns, bishop, and Rook were more or less all one giant back and forth exchange of pieces.
@lucianoariasduval3 жыл бұрын
@@Dubanx that's not the point. He's up material, but a minor piece for a rook is called "an exchange"; when you have the rook for the minor piece you are "up the exchange" and when you have the minor piece you are "down the exchange". Sacrificing a rook for a minor piece is called an "exchange sacrifice". You sacrifice the rook for the minor piece, which means you are now down an exchange. It's a specific chess term, not an evaluation. He is not saying he is down material, he is using the proper term to say he has a bishop for a rook. I saw where the misunderstanding came from and tried to clarify. Hopefully this helps.
@Dubanx3 жыл бұрын
@@lucianoariasduval He didn't exchange a bishop for a rook, though. He exchanged a bishop and 3 pawns for a rook. The whole shebang was part of one larger exchange. It's not like he was up 3 pawns, played for a bit, and then exchanged the rookbishop in an unrelated incident. That's sort of like saying losing a bishop, taking a rook, and then losing a knight puts you up the exchange because you're exchanging your knight for the rook. Even though you're ignoring the bishop you sacked to get to that point.
@asdasdv75403 жыл бұрын
@@Dubanx That's not what exchange means in this context, it specifically refers to the imbalance between the minor pieces/rooks. "Sacrificing the exchange" specifically means to sac a rook for a minor piece. You could say he sacrificed the exchange for 2 pawns in the video. In your example, it would make more sense to say you have a rook for 2 minor pieces, but you could say you're up an exchange but down a piece. Similar to what the person above was saying, the term exchange specifically refers to the rook/minor piece imbalance. You could also say someone is down 2 exchanges if they have 2 minor pieces for 2 rooks. It doesn't make sense to talk about a 'larger exchange', since an exchange has a fixed size, 1 minor piece for a rook.

As usual Erik wins, cuz he s great at chess... In my opinion in this particular line, this gambit defeats its purpose cuz he was the one being delayed in devopment, whereas gambits are ment to give up material for quick development. His opponent made a strategic mistake of allowing exchange of material at the time when he was ahead of development and having dominating posotion and more pressure. I guess this was new line for both and one who played better chess won the game.... not out of preparation.
@lecobra4183 жыл бұрын
Yup, you can tell Eric struggled a bit in the opening and only got out of it because he is a really strong player, if the game was played against two players rated around the same kevingambit would have won fairly easily. This gambit can be fun to mess around but it's definitely dubious.
