Well, so far, there are some 338,000 of us who joyfully tune in to see you make beautiful items, cleverly thrift flip, and share your lovely space and self with us! It’s always a delight when a new video comes up! Thank you indeed for sharing what you’ve learned with us! It’s inspiring!

I just wanted to say, I don't really care if you're the best at what you do or not, I love the way you explain and show us what you're doing. I think you're really good at what you do but I think your super strength is "teaching", you are super clear, super easy to follow and you're definitely super inspiring! I know it will take more than one comment on your video to combat the imposter syndrome but yeah I love your videos and I'm always looking forward to watching them! Oh and to answer your question at the beginning, I think a sewing kit/pattern is always better than buying already handmade clothes, because again teaching others how to do things is the best gift you can give us :) but well that's just my opinion ^^

Regarding the last question of the Q&A, I'd like to point out that you're doing so much more than teaching people how to sew. I, for example, get very inspired by people who create, and when I see someone start and finish a project, it motivates me to go finish stuff that I started and abandoned a while back. In addition, like many others, I admire the fact that you know you style and that has motivated me to work towards a more cohesive wardrobe, even though my style and my colour palette are very different. I also like the style of your videos, the way you present and explain things. Not to mention the fact that I get small glimpses into life across the globe, which is also very cool. Watching your latest video on a weekend morning while I sip my coffee is a tradition now and I'm not even following your tutorials yet (still very much a beginner in terms of sewing). Thanks for all of this :)

I don’t knit but I do crochet. Along with choosing patterns and fabric that mirror my changing fashion choices I am collecting crochet patterns and yarn to incorporate into my wardrobe. Thank you so much for the inspiration! I love how your choices included a wide variety of pinks. It’s my favorite color. I love the sewing kits, but I sew. I think for those who don’t the option of having your patterns sewn by you is a lovely choice. Love Billy Joel as well. A friend took me to a concert once, a very long time ago. It was super stellar. If you have the opportunity go. He is amazing live.

Something I learned when I dove into daily sewing - 4-6 hours of sewing a day during the pandemic, was that you can get burnt out pretty quickly. After making and donating nearly 3000 face masks for vulnerable communities, I lost my sew mojo. My step mom suggested I try quilting instead, and that really helped me to get my sewing energy back. I really enjoy finding patterns and fabrics to make the patterns pop. I also started making my own clothes. So having a couple of different sewing outlets to switch back and forth to kept my sewing mojo. What really exhausted me at the end of last year was being told by literally everyone to SELL everything I make and also to make this, and make that, and this. Being told your passionate ‘hobby’ should make you money is not a positive cheer for sure. I was so overwhelmed and I over committed myself. By the end of the December holiday event season I completely lost my sewing mojo again. So my advice to you, and you’ve been professionally sewing for a lot longer than I have, is to just do what gives you joy and what you’re passionate about. And if sewing up a group of dresses to sell is a lot of pressure before you’ve even started the project, it might not be a good project t to take on at the moment. Your KZbin channel is so inspiring to me and I love your aesthetic and that you don’t pressure yourself to be 💯 on trend with everything. Gravitate to what makes you happy, fulfilled, and helps you keep sewing as a joyful practice. 💕 🧵 🪡 💕

A great video as always Janelle - if it brings you joy, keep 'taking up that space', your videos are fab 😊 Your sewing kits seem really popular, so I wouldn't necessarily give those up in favour of ready-made dresses, especially if you enjoy putting them together. Like somebody else commented, you could maybe decide on a pre-set number of dresses that you could comfortably commit to making each season, then maybe make it 'first come, first served' or a 'lottery' system. Either way, only do it if you want to - just because people are asking, it doesn't mean you have to do it! If you decide it's not for you, perhaps you could link in with another Australian maker who does enjoy taking commissions and arrange a referral system? You could even consider an option where they could use your pattern/s (if that's what the customer is requesting) and agree on a small referral/pattern-use fee? Looking forward to the video of the dress you're wearing - love the collar and button placements 😊

I think 'impostor syndrome' is part of the process for every humble, creative, imaginative and ambitious person. It’s partly that we imagine that others doing successfully what we want to achieve somehow feel super calm and confident about it all the time which is a big assumption. I think it’s best to just accept the feeling and ride out it out, knowing that it’s about the effort and the work (and that frankly many lazier and less talented people do very well for all kinds of reasons unrelated to knowledge and ability, e.g. inherited money or nepotism). Anyway, I think all your work output is interesting and wonderful, plus the way you’re able to invite others into it, communicate and teach, are incredible talents on top of your manual arts talents. Please keep pursuing and developing your interests and sharing them as you do!

On imposter syndrome and teaching...the people who are the best at something are often not the best at teaching. A good teacher is able to empathize with the struggle of their student and encourage them by helping them move beyond their mistakes. I think that's what makes you a good teacher because you know you are still learning and can empathize with other learners who are coming up behind you. Love your channel!

Well I enjoy your videos very much Janelle! Keep doing what you are doing. Moving and living in other countries is great experience. We moved from Aust to New Zealand three years ago and it was the best move. But I have lived in Zambia as a child and England as a teenager so have made moves a few times with my family. Hope you get to try Japan for a move, you will gain so much from your experience.

I am a quilter. At 4’9” I also do most of my own alterations. I HATE making clothing for myself! But I still love your channel. LOL! You inspire me because you seem fearless at the machine and the serger. All the best!

I hand quilted all the quilts I made. I traced a motif with chalk on my queen bed size 60 times and each one took me an hour to quilt - so 60 hours! Your shirt style collar in this video looks amazing and really suits you Janelle.

Thank you for making the videos and sharing about the imposter syndrome as it was so encouraging! I personally have learnt so much from your tutorials and made so many dresses that I like a lot! Especially when you share how to pattern hack and provides free templates like the big sleeves and collar that works with your pattern! been following for a couple of years and really enjoyed the videos!

Love watching all your videos and I don’t even sew! 😁😂 It’s a dream of mine to sew my own wardrobe, though at the moment there are too many obstacles, but it’s so enjoyable to watch you do what you do! You’re so genuine and humble and I think that’s what attracts many of us. Just do what you want to do and I think we’ll all be here for it. As a non-sewer the opportunity to have a dress made by you is very appealing, but the sewing kits are also phenomenal. You should do whichever you prefer, or alternate doing them if you enjoy them both☺️

I agree with u on ur sewing slump fixes, I've been knitting, crocheting and sewing and I just rotate between them when I get frustrated with one and it keeps me always creating! When they're all making me crazy though, I'll read a book :)

I enjoy watching your videos (and until the end) even though I’m not into wearing dresses or even the same style as you I get do much out of them. I am hoping to follow my dream to build my channel and start an online store. You are one of the people that inspire me and a fellow Aussie. I’ve never listened to any podcast (nor even know how to start it up), but I’ll check out the one you are in as I love to know more about Australian sewists in today’s world. Thank you.

Loved your Q&A segment Janelle. You provide inspiration and confidence for me to have a go at sewing again. I am currently revamping a blouse with really wide sleeves. I have shirred the sleeve at the elbow and again at the cuff. It looks amazing now. We are all not perfect, but you are worthy. We all are. Go girl, I love your work.🧵🪡Thanks also for your wonderful insirational videos which provide guidence and joy. Warmest wishes. Denise

I love your Behind the Brand series, I was binging it last night. I felt like with this Q&A it was one of the few times we truly got to know you on a more in-depth level. Like you give us glimpses before but today felt so much more intimate and I Loved It! ☺️ My preference is sewing kits but you do you and the ppl will support it .

I loved that back and forth with yourself at the end! You're so cute 😁 If you don't feel like doing a collection, start off small.... When you are doing a dress for yourself for a video, create another one of a kind at the same time and sell that one. Some followers may be thrilled and inspired to own something you made 😊

Thanks for another great video! Your quilt looks amazing! I am pretty envious of your thrift stores; where I live we're dominated by Goodwill, which for some reason never seems to get the treasures of independent, local thrift shops. And welcome to the wonderful world of listening to Billy Joel! He's a sentimental artist for my husband and I, as we went to one of his concerts the night we got engaged. Two of my favorite songs are "Always a Woman" and "River of Dreams".

Op shopping is so fun, I can't beleive how much fabric some of your op shops have. I would definately buy a pre-made if you released them :) :) Love the quilt as well, the darker colours on there blend really well with the lighter colours :) :)

Hi Janelle, another wonderful video! I wake up every Sunday morning looking forward to a new video and always feel inspired after watching. I am also a big fan of your Rosa pattern, it is now my most tried and true dress pattern - I think I have 5 or 6! With lots of different variations including button down fronts and backs. Sending love from Melbourne!
