I completely agree with your assessments of Rosetta Stone and Pimsleur. If you accompany Pimsleur with Busuu, 501 Verbs, and a good grammar book, your success at achieving an intermediate level of fluency should be achieved upon completion of both language apps.

Rosetta Stone is very good for what it is. It teaches the way kids learn through immersion and visual association. I would argue that learning grammar (in the beginning) actually hinders you (kids initially don't learn grammar). And an easy solution like you said, is just to pick up a cheap ~$20 dollar grammar book to complement Rosetta Stone if you want. Whether you like Rosetta Stone or not really hinges on if you are more of a visual learner or an audio learner. If you are a visual learner Rosetta Stone IMO is fantastic, if you are more of an audio learner, I would recommend Pimsleur. Also -- there is no single software that does it all -- if you really want to learn -- software is just one thing to help get you started (what I call a starter book or starter course or starter program) -- you then need to complement that with reading, watching videos and also practice speaking with people. I completed Rosetta Stone Brazilian Portuguese and thought it was fantastic. And it was a great jumping-off point to watching videos and reading. So, my recommendation is Rosetta Stone (if you are a visual learner) and Pimsleur (if you are an audio learner), and then watch videos with subtitles in the target language and read like no tomorrow and IMO once your vocab is decent (maybe a few thousand words), start practicing on speaking. Finally, everyone learns differently so no one method works best for anyone. Really the single most important thing needed to learn a new language is motivation. If you are really motivated to learn a language you will learn it -- if you spend the time to learn it. And if you're not motivated - learning (regardless of the method) will be tough. Good luck everyone!

i would say language transfer is a good option too for an audio learner

Me being a kinesthetic learner. I tend to lean more towards Rosetta Stone. I need pictures and things to associate with

Hello. Your video was very informative, especially because you provided alternatives. I have a more specific question that I hope you will respond to. I'm an advanced Spanish student but more or less flying by the proverbial seat of my pants. I want to learn in a more structured manner and with grammar included. Which, if any, of these other programs allow you to step into them at an advanced level? Do they have a test at the beginning that helps place you at a proper starting point?

I’m 2 minutes in and blown away that English is your second language. I hope you explain how you reached this level of proficiency. It is extremely impressive.

I didnt like Rosetta Stone because I encountered enough instances (enough to piss me off) where the picutres were ambiguous. If I wanted to play Wheres Waldo, that would have been fine.

Took a Spanish course in college and we had to use Rosetta Stone. Wasn't all that interesting, I thought it was pretty boring but thats just my experience

I use Rosetta Stone but I don't have this problem because I don't only have 1 source of education. I study in multiple ways and Rosetta Stone does its job well. If you're studying a language and you use only 1 method to acquire that language, I believe you will always struggle.

Hi, The Language Scientist..., I thought the video was ( excellent ) and you talked about important information and disappointments with or using "Rosetta Stone Review ( 2023 )" I can understand your frustration and anxiety using "Rosetta Stone" or you and I call it..., "Old School Learning" and no sentence structure making and we call it now "Conversational Spanish"... Excellent video and informative and waiting for more foreign language course reviews..., Pros and Cons and why... * "I thank you for sharing the video and information provided." * I am stuck as a ( beginner Spanish language learner ) and looking for help.., ( e.g., Babbel, Rosetta Stone, Rocket Languages and Pimsleur, etc. ) If you could ( point me in the right direction ) and what Spanish Language Course would be more to my liking..., I would be more than appreciative for your help and assistance. I am a little older and I do like the "Old School Learning"... * However..., I am more than ( OPEN ) to a new way of learning Spanish... Once again, excellent video and information and I "Thank you" for sharing the video... "Semper Fi" Mike in Montana :)
