This video is spot on for its purpose. The difference in natural tonal qualities was presented well and clear. Thank you...it helped with my decision. I prefer the overall "warmer" sound of the mahogany. Thanks for the video!

Beautiful tones! I have to say personally I like the tone of the rosewood. Love the look of that mahogany the most! Thanks!

This was REALLY helpful, thanks much!! Great demonstration of the tonal differences, exactly what I needed. If I was anywhere near Petaluma I'd come check out your shop.

Hello, Tall Toad! I was lucky enough to find one of each at two different music shops. I (finger) played both, went home, thought about it, and ended up buying the mahogany. I could tell the difference while playing that the mahogany was better for what I was playing. Also, one tune I tried, "Living in the County", requires drop D tuning. The mahogany did a little better job on keeping the E string, dropped to D, in the same timbre as the rest of the strings.

Rosewood want me to strum and play songs. Mahogany wants me to play songs and sing along. Thank you Hannah.

I just picked up a $400 mahogany Breedlove. Damn, it's fine acoustic, and it projects sound nicely.

I think the mahogany has a more controlled/polite/focused sound than the Rosewood, which is a bit showy/uninhibited/free. I think the mahogany fits my personality. :)

This particular comparison, hog is definitely warmer and more mellow, rose is brighter. I don't find that universally true though for all comparisons. Can definitely hear the more reverb-y sound from the rosewood. The additional overtones from the rosewood aren't super apparent in this video, nor is the punchiness from the hog... sometimes playing the same thing on both doesn't really draw out what makes them distinct to the fullest. Anyway, just here to sample some Gibson L-00's, thanks for the vid!

thanks for the video! personally, I would prefer the mahogany over the rosewood... has more low end and more fuller when strumming. :)

Rosewood! I'd rather have a "bad" rosewood guitar over a "good" mahogany. The difference is astounding. Too bad rosewood guitars are going to be out of reach for most of us (CITES). Nice demo.

Ah thats what makes the world go round.. love it! Funny cause I'm totally the opposite.. I vastly prefer Mahogany to rosewood... each to his own!

I own both. There both very nice sounding guitars only just a little bit of difference. In mahogany Back. Versers bazillion. Roewood. Very subtle. Both sound really good and both are beautufull but Brazilian rose wood is now out out lawed due to over forestation ,,,

Nice guitars and simple and effective demo, but It seems (and sounds) like walnut to me in the first guitar. I own a J-15 with walnut back and sides and anybody knowing just the basics about wood, grain etc can recognize the looks and sound of american walnut in this video. Thanks anyway.

You need to get a different camera / lens, everything looks bent or curved. Very annoying to watch.
@TallToadMusic6 жыл бұрын
Sorry it annoys you. I use that camera because it has my best microphones and it only can do the wide angle lens. We are a small family music store with not much budget for social media and marketing or anything. We just like putting up videos of cool guitar related stuff. I feel that having the best/most representative audio is more important than a "non-wide angle" shot in the end. Again my apologies that it is annoying to you.
