It wasn't that simple of a situation. I don't personally know Kelly, so I don't know who she hung out with in her private life, but to anyone who watched that whole show with Clay Aiken, it was obvious she was very uncomfortable around him. And it didn't help that she freaked out over him putting his hand over Kelly and got all germophobe over the whole incident. The irony though is she did the exact same thing to Regis twice yet it was hypocritical when she complained Clay doing it to her.

I remember the episode and Kelly was EXTREMELY uncomfortable with Clay. It DID feel homophobic when he played with her and put his hand over her mouth (which she has done playing with cohosts) and Kelly LOST IT! Saying. Before calling Kelly a homophobe, Rosie had her as a guest on her talk show numerous times. They seemed to have gotten along really well, and I think that Kelly may have felt the attack was coming out of left field. I remember seeing the incident Rosie called homophobic on Live television when Clay put his hand over Kelly's mouth during an interview and essentially told her to shut up. Kelly removed his hand and said "Oh no sweety I don't know where your hands have been". I don't gather that as a homophobic remark and so hadn't anyone till Rosie came to that conclusion and called her out on national TV. If anything, a man putting his hand over a woman's mouth to shut her up on HER talk show is blatantly disrespectful and quite sexist. I would have expected Rosie to come to Kelly's defense as a fellow female talk show host because I'm sure she wouldn't have been so cool with Clay doing the same to her on national TV.

I used to love Rosie’s talk show in the 90s, and I ended up going to a live taping of it with a friend. We were both disillusioned after that experience as Rosie was cold as stone during commercials and refused to interact with the audience. It was clear there was a huge difference between the person she was in reality and the person she pretended to be on The Rosie O’Donnell Show. I am not always a fan of Kelly Ripa’s actions/reactions either, but I completely understood where she was coming from regarding the Clay Aiken incident. Rosie had some nerve to call her homophobic, and Kelly called up The View and called her out on it as she should have. I don’t blame Kelly for distancing herself from Rosie from there on out. I would have done the same. Rosie never offered a sincere apology either.

I went to her live taping twice. First time Oprah was there so Rosie was on good behavior. The next year I went Rosie was as you described plus she had an attitude toward her staff. I was and still am a fan to an extent of Rosie. But many of these stars, just like us, are insecure and are different when the cameras are away. Wanting everything to be perfect because if it’s not they look bad. I am not a fan of Kelly Ripa but I think Rosie went too far. I am gay myself and not everything is because you are gay.
