My Rosie faces are now available for purchase on Shapeways. I have provided two variants: one with a 2mm peg, and one with a flat back. The smokebox mount for the Rivarossi S100 is also available for HO modelers. The flat-backed version is also available in OO scale as well, so make sure you select the correct version you want to use. www.shapeways.com/product/LC3EDZEWR/rosie-the-american-engine-face-pack-2mm-peg?optionId=291420535&li=shops www.shapeways.com/product/UB2TWN7SB/rosie-the-american-engine-face-pack-flat-back?optionId=291422175&li=shops www.shapeways.com/product/VX8683A2X/flat-smokebox-for-rivarossi-s100-face-mount?optionId=291420533&li=shops

#30061 was built by H.K. Porter & Company in 1942 and was withdrawn from service on October 20th, 1962. However, it wasn't sold for scrap until July 1967 when it was cut up at Cashmore's Scrapyard in Newport. So maybe TFC found Rosie on the out-of-use sidings.

Porter is based on a Strasberg idk class his former railway was B.E.D.T and he and his other were probably also moved to parts of Europe and porter was moved to the Isle of Man AKA sodor

@@SierraRail3Prodtechnically Sodor and The Isle of Man are separate, but you're not _too_ far off, as The Reverend Wilbert Awdry _did_ derive "Sodor" from the Diocese of Sodor and Man (the Isle of Man's branch of the Church of England)

I like what you've done with Rosie, she looks great! I was initially confused when you got a Rivarossi S100 instead of the Bachmann one, considering the scale differences, but this was only because I watched this before your Toby video and realized you're intentionally going for HO scale rather than OO. I'll admit, this is quite the interesting challenge you've put upon yourself to recreate the engines in this scale, and I wish you luck with it!

I personally had her come to Sodor during World War 2 in 1944, but this works too. I would add her having a personal kinship to the E2's though and worship Thomas due to his involvement in World War 2 as well as from stories she's heard of him after the RWS books are published and how it inspired her.
@themightygallium95096 ай бұрын
I actually have a reboot idea where Thomas is built in 1952 as an experimental E2X Class (which explains why he has a smaller frame, and yes, X Classes are a thing) in honour of the 70th birthday of Lawson Billinton, who designed the original E2s. Thomas would be sent to work at Southampton Docks where, despite his enhanced capabilities, he would still be teased by his larger brethren for being a runt of the litter, so to speak. However, Thomas would soon grow a stronger backbone and develop his own identity with the help of a friendly SR USA class engine called Rosie, and the two would go on to become best buddies ever since. After the steam engines were set to be replaced by diesels in the 1960s, Thomas was bought onto the NWR in 1962 by Sir Topham Hatt, whose interest was piqued upon hearing of such a unique and one-of-a-kind engine definitely worth preserving. Thomas would later return to his old railway after a long goods delivery to the Mainland with Douglas, where he would save Rosie from scrap and bring her to work on Sodor alongside Oliver in 1966. I know. Very different from the RWS, but I thought it would be easier to keep track of the reboot chronology if it was set over a shorter timeframe. The book timeline covered 100 years, this one I'd say would cover 40 years max.

This is a truly phenomenal model. I love the S100s and am working on one myself. Your airbrushing skills are wonderful and it is so refreshing to see decals which many Thomas modellers do not use. I love that you are doing the NWR fleet in HO, not OO. I plan to do a realistic Thomas in HO someday. One suggestion I have is to use 91% isopropyl alcohol to strip the paint. Factory printed lettering is slightly "raised" and shows under the new paint in certain lighting. keep up the great work!

Looks brilliant, I like seeing British outline HO being done although there are a few things I'd like to critique positively of course. When doing the pupils of the eyes I recommend getting something that is round but ergonomic like a paint brush, I use this knitting thing I think it's for but I filed one of the knobbly ends flat so I can dip it in black paint and do the pupils. As for couplings I recommend slaters or smiths or whoever does 3 link stuff in 4mm scale, those hormby screwlinks you use are good and are in scale but they're too solid as couplings need slack in them, plus they only do screwlinks and not 3 links which is what you want for wagons. I do apologise for my useless comment, I try to be helpful and brief but I end up typing so much 😅
@KeeperofToast Жыл бұрын
I'll definitely need to look into some 3 links then. Thanks for the advice!
@numptypootis8012 Жыл бұрын
@@KeeperofToast no worries mate, I think instead of using that tool I poorly described you could use a dead biro pen as you inky need to dip it in a bit of paint and practise how big you want the pupil - those hornby couplings are good and are to scale with HO I think but they do end up falling apart after a while as they're cosmetic rather than for actually hauling use, you could probably scratchbuild/buy the hooks and make up your own chain links out of craft wire, I usually do that!
@1471SirFrederickBanbury22 күн бұрын
Hornby screw links are of the diesel type with the inflexible link attached to the hook. The only really decent screw links were the Exactoscale ones, but they need a lot of work with a file and are no longer easy to come by, so your best bet is the Alan Gibson one.

Great custom Rosie! I like the industrial weathering look for her as real industrial and dockyard engines are meant to be grimy, even tank engines. As for Rosie as a character in the show, I consider her to be overrated. Not saying I hate the character, but because she was marketed every time in every promo or event as a main character when she's really a minor character with no persona. I dislike her in the HiT era mostly because she kinda feels like a stalker towards Thomas (which feels like Willow Cruz following Joey Rooney around, but creepier). While she doesn't do much in the later half of the CGI Series, I'll take that over her previous incarnation with that red livery and characterization. I like your headcanon for Rosie though as it really would've suited her more than what the writers tried.

What method do you use to thin your acrylics?
@KeeperofToast Жыл бұрын
I generally use a 1:1 ratio of paint to thinner, but it really depends on the brand. Vallejo needs less thinning for use in airbrushes, so 2:1 seems to be best for those.
@witcherstudios9351 Жыл бұрын
@@KeeperofToast I see. I use Folkart Acryllics. So it might take more to thin it out.

I been thinking about Rosie and what she would be like in the railway seriers so here my take on her. Built jn 1943 for war effort she would made surplus in 1945 but would be sold to tidmouth dock and railway company with her brother Bradford to replace older tank engine that where warn out that had work at tidmouth dock for over 40 years both roise and Bradford arving in 1946 and both remain at the dock as off 2023 both some time been lone to nwr when things get quiet. Roise would be a tomboy type character who really hate girly stuff hence why she would were black as well been able to hold her own against the much bigger engine.
