Some things that I accidentally left out of the video's script: -I added a TCS KA-1 Keep Alive after the running session was filmed. I have yet to bring it back to the club for another run but I anticipate improved performance. Why the Bachmann J72 didn't have a sprung center axle is beyond me. -The counterweights are 3d prints of my own design. They are a little chunky, but I wanted to have an accurate representation of the E2's counterweights. -The tanks, boiler and dome are stuffed with tungsten putty to give him traction. -The method I devised to keep the body on as mentioned at 12:45? Gravity and friction. I unfortunately could not re-use the J72's body screws.

Tbh I’ve actually learned to be ok with having Thomas be the full length of an E2. I went back and forth on this for a while, but came to my conclusion after taking the story triple header into consideration. In that story, Thomas Percy and Duck triple head the express. Percy’s at the front, Duck’s in the middle, and Thomas is coupled to the coaches. The E2s were about 33 inches long while the panier tanks were I think 31 inches. So if Thomas was a full sized E2, and slightly bigger than Duck, it’d PROBABLY make sense to have him next to the train instead of Duck. If Thomas was supposed to be smaller than Duck, to me, it doesn’t make sense to have him next to the train. Plus it just looks visually wrong to me; small engine, big engine, small engine? So that’s how I came to my conclusion. Feel free to tell me what you think to whom ever reads this! 👍🏾

This is obviously just a Clive Spong thing, but Thomas is depicted as nearly as tall as Green Arrow, which just about fits the height difference between an E2 and an A1/V2 in real life.

I love how unique your scale for these models are! I've just decided that I'll probably just go for OO scale as I'm not head over heels for any american locos. But scaling down the models to HO is really cool to see!

The LOK-Sound and custom coaches are really nice to see! And I'm in agreement with you on Shapeways discontinuing the materiel. It's never been great, but it was much better than filament printing. I've heard from some that the new resin material warps due to ambient heat, like in the summer. But I could be wrong on that.

If it’s possible, I think it would be really cool if you could program the DCC sound effects to have some Thomas voice clips. Whether it’s Ringo Starr, Michael Angelis, George Carlin, Edward Glen, or one of his other numerous voice actors, I think it would be an interesting touch. Of course do whatever you want with it, it’s your model

I have a very different idea of what engine Thomas is; I say there were three. 1: E2 1915-1935 2: J50 1936-1960 3: Jinty 1961-present Thomas I was brought on as normal. In 1935 he was deemed unrepairable and uneconomical and so he was gutted for spares and a J50 was brought on to replace him. This was Thomas II. Thomas II crashed into the Stationmaster's house in 1960 and was sent away, replaced by a Jinty from Barrow in Furness- Thomas III. This engine continues to run today.

Your Thomas model looks great and the sound to though I think a LBSCR E2 whistle will fit better then a TV series one do to your model being RWS style
@KeeperofToast
@KeeperofToast Жыл бұрын
I do agree that a more realistic whistle would be better. Only problem is, there aren't any recordings (at least as far as I can find) of the actual whistles the E2s used. Ideally, I'd like to find a real steam whistle that sounds close enough to Thomas' whistle in the show, but that's gonna take a while.

Actually the E2's were faced out from 1961 to 1963 not the 1950's. One thing that always bothers me when people critize them is that if they were so useless, than why there they used for 50 Years from 1913 to 1963?! Useless Engines are not used for half a century.

I very much like the fact that you are making everything h0 instead of 00. the ridiculousness of the scale/gauge discrepancy for the sake of super tight curves has gone on long enough. I am glad more people are trying P4, EM, and h0. Maybe one day, it will be mainstream, and we will look back at our old 00 models warmly, with appreciation of the priorities of the past, and the advantages we have today and in the future...

I'd say blue with yellow and white, like the flag of Sodor.
@KeeperofToast
@KeeperofToast Жыл бұрын
I think they would go with some shade of blue. The guy who does the Railway Mania podcast has his own project called Sudrian Histories, and his take on the NWR uses a unified blue-and-black scheme with white lining that looks incredibly classy. I'd recommend taking a look at that because his videos and models are very well crafted, and they inspired some aspects of my own NWR.

In my opinion, I’d like to think that somewhere around when the E2’s were relegated to Southampton docks a distinctive person would’ve taken one of those E2’s when they began to get phased out around the 1950’s as pity for their entire class being withdrawn was that this person would’ve brought in a E2 for a rebuild, shortening the length, making the water tanks wider and just a bit thicker while maintaining the correct coal capacity, doing this would’ve maybe reduced the shaking of the tanks. (It partly did, but didn’t fully do the idea of rebuilding the E2’s never took off as LBSCR didn’t take interest as not all the designs were fixed and didn’t want to risk one of their horrible designs being another flop, and so when the war rolled around and prices went high, the E2 (Thomas) was sold off to a certain *island.*
