The tempo change they mention in Lucy In The Sky with Diamonds is actually because they recorded two different versions and John told George Martin to combine the two but they were at different tempos so he slowed one down and sped one up a little so it wasn't as drastic and then made that edit. It was more of a George Martin thing than a "Beatles" thing, although he was one of them.
