Honestly, I wish we could just have cargo vessels to be armed with a minigun or just a couple of machine guns. Doing it this way with helicopters is incredibly inefficient. If you get there before they've boarded the ship, sure you can do something. But in this case, we're paying a bunch of money to have HMS Northumbria down there. The question is, how many pirate attacks do they stop compared to cases like this one where they can't do anything in fear of harm coming to the crew? It'd be much better to just have a few armed people on board the cargo ships, as they'd always be there, ready in case a pirate skiff comes along.
@BrokeCanadian6 жыл бұрын

They are discouraged from doing that, but that is the new lucrative market for PMC's or modern day mercenaries. You can find barges that these guys operate from that board civillian ships transiting and function as anti piracy personell with guns onboard during the transit of the corridor, where they then disembark at the end and then return to their barge. But yes, Russians love to shoot first and never respond to questions later :D

Exactly, it's sickening to say the least. I've always compared this things to the whole gun law ordeal here in the US. Most people who read this won't agree with the right's decision to keep guns, but this documentary is a good comparison. To put it simple, whether legal, or illegal, it is VERY easy to get a firearm here in the US. Most criminals believe it or not, DO NOT legally purchase firearms, they purchase "ghost guns" which are registered to nobody and are completely untraceable. Sure every now and then some deranged idiot will get a hold of his buddy's legally owned gun and goes and does something stupid, but that is completely inevitable no matter how strict gun laws are. If someone wants to commit a crime with a firearm, they are not going to care about breaking a gun law. And when guns become hard to acquire legally, the prices of the "ghost guns" will SKYROCKET, and that money will go into the hands of the suppliers. MUCH like the merchant ships that are pirated, if schools, office buildings, libraries, places of worship, etc. were able to have ARMED GUARDS IN THEM, the shootings would become less frequent, and those that did happen would have a much greater chance of being diffused with minimum tragedy. An armed nation is a safe nation, back in the day nobody was so willing to rob you or gun down a movie theater, because most of the people in that movie theater would be carrying. The majority of people are too soft to carry these days though. And for those in nations that have very strict gun laws, who claim that the "crime rate is lower because people don't walk around with guns", Yeah you're right, you PROBABLY won't get shot, but you will probably have a cup of acid thrown in your face as an alternative, or be beaten and robbed by some dudes on a moped. And when someone over there decides they wanna shoot something or someone, they are going to go illegally purchase a gun and do so. You all picture the US as a crime ridden country where you are basically guaranteed to be robbed at gunpoint or shot, but that is only because those are the only things the media relays over to you. How often do you see a crime prevented because thankfully somebody was carrying compared to hearing about a shooting or something? Personally, when I have access to a firearm I feel safer than ever, and when I am surrounded by other coherent Americans who value their safety from the deranged and a corrupt government, I am thankful that weapons are so easy to get a hold of. They are the only thing stopping our government from overtaking our freedom, and our streets from being polluted with crime. An American politician who wants to strip us of our guns, is a politician who is OPENLY ADMITTING, that they want more control over the people, and want to strip us of our only defense from them. Fortunately it is impossible for our guns to be taken away, when that day comes when they show up at our door for our guns, and it will, there will be an uprising. The government will not have the assistance of our military, because the military would never turn on our country, and the people will do exactly what the country needs, and overthrow the government. Our laws are extremely outdated, and need to be reformatted according to the countless advances in science and technology over the last hundred years. Sadly, that will not happen with the current Republican and Democratic games that are being played election after election. These power hungry monsters need to be booted from the system, and the people need to take over and reform the government, even if it takes a civil war. Every part of the nation is flawed and people's feelings are preventing anything from being done about it, and when the day comes that it all changes, we are going to be VERY thankful for the second amendment.

Worthless waste of taxpayer money. No country or private security has full jurisdiction to perform military actions on foreign vessels that's why there is not much anyone can do about it. I was down in St. Thomas where hundreds of boats including multi million dollar top of the line yachts have been left to be sunk by the hurricane that hit that place. The owners are claiming they have no idea where their boats are, but they are all in that harbor and some of those boats are from Florida. People intentionally sailed to the area they knew was going to get hit hard and anchored the boats there. This is not from me this is from the locals that live there and they say this is a very common tactic.

Because there were speed boats surrounding it and a mothership and then the mothership is said to be a fishing vessel, where did the speed boats go off too in the first distress call? The pirates used to be fishermen, commercial over fishing means no more fishing
@andamlakandfitret65616 жыл бұрын
Agreed, I saw a documentary how the chinise and every one else have been comercial fishing for years. Now I can not say they all where Fisher man to feed their family. But people in that part of the world support their family just doing that. That's the flipside of the story. Thx

Not denying this ten years ago. No international fishing ship is going to work pirate waters. No illegal international fishing is going to occur with an international force nearby.

I wonder if the people on the warships suspect that the other skiffs, acting as just simple fishermen, really are in on it & just acting as decoys?

The over fished is a lie,,umm make millions by taking a ship or penny's by fishing?? Think about it
@arthurkal58926 жыл бұрын
It's just an excuse, atleast that is my opinion. They know that people Believe in it and that Everything is PC now so they know that people will complain if people say that they are obviously not fishermen.

@Brandon Toad: I am a Trump supporter and see the problem dumbass. You took a philosophy class instead of a class that could actually teach you something about logic and science. All you have managed to do is get brain washed by lefty professors and spout your nonsense in a very unrewarding way. You should call your college and demand your money back.

What i don't undestand is what happens after the pirates boarded the ship... The marines don't attack to not put the ship's crew in danger...but are they following the ship or are they just letting them go ? I mean what happens to thecrew after arriving in somalia ?

“I’ve got a family to feed too, but I don’t go around pointing guns at people. Wait…well I actually do … hahaha” The sublime irony in this and the fact that it was lost on them, is such poetic truthfulness. Colonial, “legal” gun pointing is where all the trouble started. I just needed to point out that wonderful piece ignorant irony and cultural conditioning

Damn. It would be nice if that captured vessel could be raided by military and retaken but with crew on board and armed pirates, boarding and raiding options are limited. Crew could be killed, and troops could be killed just as easily trying to board. I wonder what happens to the crew once they reach Somalia... there must be some effort to retrieve the ship and crew at some point.
@Turtleback8024 Жыл бұрын
At the point of ransom-payment, yes they 'might' be. But who knows? The crew are PoP (Prisoners of Piracy) until a ransom is paid. And yes, they might be treated like animals.😔

How To Defeat Somalia Pirates: (1) Hire me as a Security Guard and I will,bring my hunting rifle and 100 rounds of ammunition! (2) When a pirate boat comes alongside your ship and puts up a ladder have some crewmembers pull up the ladder and throw it overboard! (3) When a pirate boat comes along side your ship and throws up a grappling hook have some crewmembers pull up the grappling hook and cut the rope! None of the pirates can board your ship if they don't have a ladder or grappling hook! ! !

it's obvious they had the pirates in sight and ruined the 1st attempt on the saldana but the us crew said those were fisherman and ok...if they were fisherman and ok why were they coming up on the merchant telling him to slow down but then took off(probably because they heard helicopters)
