A great video that reminded me of a quote: Hustle beats talent when talent won’t hustle.

Arrogance is thinking you are above everyone else, confidence is knowing no one else is above you.

Agree 100%. I have also wondered if there are some who mistake silent confidence for fear. i can actually imagine some people assuming that one has no confidence precisely because one is not vocal and loud.

Arrogance only serves you, but confidence gives strength to yourself and others around you.

You addressed it correctly and very few dare to touch this subject, because they might feel the light of truth shining on themselves. I wrote it on your blog and I'm going to write here again exactly: I am not a stranger of both. I've come to experience one only to learn and trade it for the other. Confidence is the prerequisite for dignity, for true human values. While arrogance is nothing but the lack of confidence, therefore a form of fear arising from the comparison with others. And many are so toxic in their infatuation (for this is the right word for pompous arrogance) ending up in damaging themselves first and then the others around. That hatred is consuming. No matter the effort, the results or dedication, those are NOT and never will be athletes, because they lack the true spirit of movement. I choose to pursue the dignity of being confident, even though sometimes I may be limping.

I feel like in Combat sports it's different...I'm not turned off when a boxer or MMA fighter is arrogant for promotion purposes ....look at Mayweather and Connor Mcgregor for instance....A strong following equals a higher chance for profit...people pay ..either to watch you win or lose...I'm more turned off when an athlete is arrogant when he plays in a team based sport rather than individual..where you can put your teammates at risk because of retaliation...

+William Villar On that note, one could question whether or not it actually is true arrogance (or is it more acting in the name of marketing/promotion). For instance, Mayweather gravitated towards the role of the villain and got people in the seats (even if they were hoping to see him lose).

+William Villar I love boxing, but have a different point of view, WV. I am a great admirer of Mayweather's skill, yes, but at the same time AM very much turned off by his often self-worshiping and (frankly) idiotic behavior. I really don't care whether it put more butts in the seats and $$ in his pocket. To me there are more important considerations than both of those. I'm probably in the minority, but so be it. Felt the same way when Conor McGregor recently said he would kick Jesus Christ's a_ _ . No doubt that was very funny to some. But yeah, take your pick: Jerry Rice or Terrell Owens; Barry Sanders or Chris Johnson.

I love this video and I see what you mean. I feel like I'm confident inside but often come off to others like I'm arrogant. When I'm playing on the field opponents are constantly criticising who I am and the way I play but I know I train hard every single day and I stand up for myself. Is that considered arrogance? I also believe I am better than others because I work really hard but I still have a lot to improve. I'm just confused.

I agree with some of this - but I think confident athletes can be arrogant as well, and still be very succesful. Just look at Cassius Clay/Mohammed Ali, he said a lot, mental games against his opponents, stating he could do things better and fast than anyone else. I would say the same is true of Connor McGregor in the UFC these days, he is essentially a loutmouth, but both fighters have been or are currently successful. This means to me that a person could be both arrogant and confident and that the two states are not mutually exclusive. It would be nice if we could "write off" arrogant fighters, assuming they are not confident, but that could be the downfall of your fighter, were you to assume that arrogance meant the opponant was not confident or not an able fighter.
@RossEnamait19779 жыл бұрын
+MrJimodoom I'm not suggesting that confident individuals can't be arrogant. My point is that being confident doesn't mean that you are close to being arrogant. The two are still separate/unique. As for fighters who are perceived as running their mouths, it's also important to realize that much of the talk is for other reasons (i.e. mind games, marketing a fight, entertainment, etc.. If two fighters were always polite and never said anything, many fans wouldn't have the same interest. Floyd Mayweather is a prime example. There were always people watching his fights simply because they were hoping to see him lose.

If you're a boxer and said before the fight "I'm gonna knock him out in the 3rd" and he actually knock him out in rhe 3rd. Is that confidence or arrogance ?
@RossEnamait19779 жыл бұрын
+subscriber10304 It could be neither, either, or both. Many fighters say things to market the fight. Plenty of fighters say things that they don't even believe.

I know you disagree with the saying, there's "fine line" between the confidence and arrogance. However, I can see why some would say that. Take Floyd as an example, he definitely ups the antics when the cameras turn on but when the bell rings he does what it takes to back up his promises and pull out the victory. Then you have Mike Tyson who was a ferocious killer, and won the fight before the bout started. But now we know he was completely terrified the entire time. I believe the perspective is what you make it.
@RossEnamait19779 жыл бұрын
+Joey Cambrelen The real point is that being confident doesn't mean that you are close to being arrogant. The two are separate. With that said, it's certainly possible for an individual to be confident in his abilities, while also displaying arrogance. It's also worth noting that much of Floyd's antics were for marketing. He knew how to get people watching.
