Why was 2017 good? I have a mixed 2017 case from the wine society bought en primeur to see if I could get into Pinot Noir. Should I be drinking it?..... Bit of a Bordeaux fan🙈.... Really enjoying your videos, thank you.

Well it's partly down to personal preference, but to me it seemed like 2017 was just right - not too hot, not too cold. Burgundy from 2017 tends to have, in my experience, lovely acidity, great balance, and just overall finesse. It does everything I want from a Burgundy. By contrast 2018 was a bit too hot and some Burgundies ended up a bit jammy. I think 2016 was a bit of a difficult year (I don't remember the specifics, but perhaps a lot of rain at the wrong time?) and I found wines from that vintage very hit and miss - a lot more "green" and funky wines.

Oh also another nice thing about 2017 Burgundy is that it seemed to mature very quickly. So I'm fairly sure your wines would be very enjoyable now!

Yes, sorry! 😂 I found this footage (from December) earlier today and realised I had forgotten to edit/upload it - but it's a bit out of date now! As it happens I recently took delivery of a case of the 2018 vintage of this wine I'd had cellared at BBR for a while, which I'd originally bought "En Primeur" (I am starting to think that's a con, possibly a subject for a future video). Watching these tasting notes back today reminded me that the 2017 was much nicer than the 2018! That's not to say that the 2018 was terrible - it was very drinkable - but the 2017 in my opinion was a lot more sophisticated. You can still buy the 2017 in a few places according to wine-searcher.com, but it's back to "standard" Gevrey Chambertin prices of £60+ a bottle. In the bizarre world of Gevrey Chambertin pricing I still don't think that's (comparatively) over the top if that's a particular style of wine you really want to drink... But, as always, you'd almost certainly get better by value for money with something a bit different but at least in the same broad region from Fingal Rock!
