Still sounds great nearly 190 years after it was composed! Almeida and the Monte Carlo players perform with both speedy vigour and finesse. Superb.....

There's another excellent reference recording since the early 80's, with the same orchestra. It's Verdi's ballet-music, under Ant. de Almeida. However, the splendid performance of the virtuoso passages of these rossinian "dance" pieces has surprised me.
