Telly Funquiz was an electrifying show on the TV1. Martin Bailey used to say "no whispering please audience". Lots of prizes were won. SABC has all the episodes in their archives. We need to bribe them to reflight this fantastic show. Martin Bailey is still behind the microphone in UK. All the best Martin. We miss you with that nice accent.

I just stumbled on this right now. Looks like it was a good show. It appears this format was adapted from one in America, where it aired as "Strike it Rich" from 1986 to 1987. It was presented by sports broadcaster and former baseball player Joe Garagiola.
@andrewschroy63683 жыл бұрын
Which would also be adapted in England as Strike it Lucky with Michael Barrymore-- which lasted from 1986 to 1999.

Well, Ross, 12300 Rand, that was quite an amount back then. For the first fifteen minutes, I thought this a 1980s show, and I was flabbergasted when I found out it was 1993. Still very all-white, even by 1993 standards, wasn't it?
@carolynbeyer92556 жыл бұрын

@vincentvanwyk55224 жыл бұрын
Actually I went to a showing of this once and it was 1993. What struck me most was how plain and dirty and unassuming were the benches the audience sat on. Also, it took about an hour and a half to film the show due to set backs etc and even got one couple to redo a scene with them having to fake the wrong answer again!
