Ceramic capacitors (especially high-capacitance ones) tend to fail in a short circuit; this is very common. Mechanical damage from flexing the board, being dropped, etc. could all cause a small crack in the capacitor and then BLAM your decoupling capacitor is now shorting out your power rail. Dave from EEVBlog showed a spectacular version of this failure on a power supply that had large ceramic capacitors right next to some screw terminals; prime location for board flexing. That poor diode kinda acted as a fuse in this case, and the 5V you injected finished the deed.

Hey Louis, I have a same 1707 and it suddenly died. I took it with 2 tech guys around my block in Mexico and couldn't find the problem, every point of the board gives the right voltage, the battery is working fine, the charger and ports too. When I connect it to the power one fan makes a very small movement. The power button also gives the right power when pressed. Can you help me Louis? I have watched all you're similar fix videos of these models and something on the board is damaged and not giving the right power, mine does give the right power on everything. it doesn't have water or drop damages. I was working in the night left plugged in my office and next day didn't turn on. :(

Tantalum capacitors are notorious for developing internal short, monolithic ceramics also can develop shots internally due to Silver migration. This is well known history of these parts. Maybe 1 per hundred thousand or more.

Hey Louis, i have a case with Apple that i need your help with, i have the 2018 MacBook Pro with butterfly keyboard, i have 2 keys stuck and I checked with Apple before going to the authorized repair shop to fix under the repair program launched by Apple after so many complaints and lawsuits, the technician there told me that the battery is attached to the top with the keyboard and he has to replace both and my battery is swollen and that makes it out of the program!!!, I’m heavily using this laptop for 3 years now, is what he is telling is true? I’m watching some videos on KZbin with the same model and i can see it’s not attached to the top frame!

If you have a really small tip soldering iron and some tweezers you could try reattaching it. Don't try a heat gun, you could probably heat damage a chip or something
