The Quarry on Central Road was a hang out after school and during the holidays and it has a long history.
Now Heritage listed due to a belief it began life as a source of rock for road building going back over a century.
Neville Lane's father in law Mr Merryweather , used it in the 1940s to gather rocks to deposit in his sidecar and carry home to 1 Riverton Drive and push those same rocks into the concrete walls of the pool he built the family.
For us it was a place for a sly fag, to shotgun a beer for the first time but for most a place to ride the treadly and play in the bush.
Close by were the shops where you collected the keys from Mr Rinaldi at the Deli to open the tennis courts, many kids worked for Mr and Mrs Mercer at the Esso servo pumping fuel whilst checking oil, tyres and cleaning windows, the bowling club was built before many things existed and there would be some stories I would love to hear from there.
I hope this one brings back some memories for you all who played at the quarry?
