Great intro mate, Ford Australia has always as it would seem since the 70's to understate their power levels in their performance cars, due to making them affordable when it comes to insurance! Much respect to the Ford suspension engineer's and to the owner of this fine example, gotta admit, a manual would be more fun! Cheers mate...

Can confirm 12.3 over the 1/4mile and 0-100 in 4.4secs. True muscle car, big engine fitted to a car barely hanging on. Its a rush. The later FGX xr8 got the GS's gearbox tune rather than the FG GTs, also the new ECU fitted to the GTF. More processing power and for me both cars are not as brutal. Almost like more technological refinement tamed the beast too much. The RSpec could have done with the GTP seats and that would have done it. Held its own with the GTF and HSV. Great car.

100% it holds its own with the GTF! im planning to try n get them next to each other to find out once and for all.. after driving both tho im leaning towards Rspec.. not sure why just am.. both savage cars

@@RossReviewsau a friend owned a white manual, back to back with other friends, all picked mine. Louder and faster. Mine is auto so every change he lost ground. Same dyno but different days his GTF did make 2kw more at the wheels. Cool car and some nice trinkets for the last one but just lacked the punch for me. Should have been so much more. But so could the RSpec. Was a big step for Ford to do the upgrade they did for project panther. Ford looked at RSpec upgrades during the GTF program. Nothing came of it but there were a few meetings held. Also drove one of the first 430 GTSs back to back when they arrived. Technically superior car but not so "muscle car", quieter too. Through in the owners outgoing 310 F6 also, they are fun, just dont have the theater of the v8.

I think all Fords suffer from the same issue as opposed to their Holden counterparts; the interiors are reallly not up to par. It used to never really be a turn off for me, but seeing some nice interiors in some of the newer cars that are being offered (even the non-performance specs), a nice interior is really such a nice luxury that I would probably argue no longer be considered a luxury; but a must have.

it is a basic interior this car you can forgive a bit because it is so savage and very rare (collectors car) but in general yes the GTs should have had a bit better interiors.. love love love the VF interior and track apps.. wish this car had track apps

Bloody great review mate.. There is on of these in my area and I’lam serious when I say it’s in very poor condition Near all rims rashed, and a dint or rear door plus front bar cracked I had a photo on my old phone of it Haven’t seen it for a few years hopefully it’s at a new home

Awesome car! I've got a tuned FGX XR8 and it's suspension (same as this car) is good! Especially with the full Whiteline anti roll bar kit.

That sad there is not much to that that owners can't do already save for using the standard ECU code. Suspension wise owners can do 3rd party enhancement and be much better (if need be) that said these cars are not race track weapons, they are meant for public roads.

Is this better than the BF GTP then? RSpec suspension changes are not enough to say it’s sooooo much better than a normal GT. Best suspension for an FG is shockworks - can’t wait for you to test one with that fitted. Mine is available if you like.

i would say this was firmer than the GT-P but still i didn't think it was terribly harsh.. this car tho on a hole feels more savage than a regular GT.. the wider rear tires with the stiffer mounts and suspension really seems to get the power down better.. really need to test them back to back tho as its hard to remember exactly every car.. are you in perth?

Awesome review mate! how does the RSpec compare to the FGX XR8? I was told once that as a run out they took the suspension from the RSpec and threw it at the FGX XR8 is this true?

FG FPV GT R-Spec and FG X XR8 (not the Sprint) are basically the same vehicle in terms of suspension, the difference is FPV is 3rd party enhanced where as the XR8 is down the same factory line, it then comes down down to which one has better appearance.

yes i believe they are very similar.. ive driven the XR8 Sprint and its amazing honestly very similar but the FPV just feels more special for obvious reasons

Tbh, in my experience of falcons they haven't been a boat. Territories have but the falcons have always sunk down stable into the corners.

Theyre a wicked car. Theres 2 red on black ones in my area that i only see every other sunday. So i reckon theyre kept sort of as collector cars not daily drivers. Theyre no au... but i deffinately wouldnt complain about owning one.

If you have a pre rspec 5.0 like me just replace most important bushes with harder aftermarket ones and buy the shocks from this. 300 bucks for the 2 fronts. Pretty sure the springs are about 130 and not sure about the rears. Aftermarket bigger roll bars too. Its possible to get the same feeling. Just buying coilovers wont do the job when you've got soft rubber bushes since they added stiffer than normal bushes in certain places including the engine mounts.

c'mon Johnny... The GTF is the fastest FPV ever made. And it was built on the same chassis as the RSpec... Not to mention the RSpec's polarising colour - while the GTF's overall styling is a lot nicer. I know which one is king of the FPV's

Fastest production Ford Falcon ever made? No, no way, the FG GT-F (which is based on R-Spec) is faster and has more top end power on over-boost (at least 45kW more) from FPV production line, forget about 400m times top end speed showed the GT-F without the speed limiter hit 298km/h on the Stuart Highway (Northern Territory) the R-Spec could not match this. The irony here is that the FG X XR8 (not the Sprint version) is basically the same car as the FG GT R-Spec minus the FPV badge and custom trim but has one major advantage over the R-Spec, it was built on the same production line from the factory and that counts a lot in terms of resale market.

After studying this and going over my old review in the GTF I’m not convinced it’s faster.. on par i think is fair.. even in the forms most owners say they get the same times as Rspecs.. I need to prove this tho I hope to get this and a gtf out on the same day n do some testing

Recommend when doing performance testing - kick the passengers out. That way you can make it comparable to other tests and give it the best chance. It prevents the infamous ‘Supercharged V8 Dragy disease’ - excuses.

The suspension is terrible. Got rid of the suspension in my FGX XR8 which had the same set up. Bilsteins and SSL/SSL king spirngs made it such a nicer ride, tougher stance and handled even better. But hands down the GT Rspec looked the part and had a nicer interior.

These FPV Falcon have one thing that GMH and there 3rd party enhancer HSV could never have in there cars, SOUL, HSV are basically enhanced Commodore with GM Chevrolet junk engines that even GM would not use in there own performance version vehicles which says a lot of how HSV basically had to work their magic on the junk they had to work with from GM. At the time all the motor media were raving on about 0-100 and 400m times (really who gives a f##k about that crap) but the reality is for drivers regardless of metro or metro motorway or regional highway driving the Falcon was the choice (despite the shit seating positing from FG onwards) to do the km's with, the equiv GM product felt too American in the way it did things, drivers who would always ask to get Falcon over Commodore but the accounts would always look at costs and opt for the cheaper of the two.
