Unbelievable that he sits down and plays-- on the piano-- an imaginary realization for three voices. Genius.

I’m in tears. It is always heart stopping- heart enlivening to hear a master speak about these works as he does. Certainly puts this particular suite in a new ear for me. Wonderful to get this input on this piece I’ve known for fifty years. Thank you.

Wow, Rostropovich don't talk about the suite BWV 995, in G minor, from Lute. Bach, himself, transcribed his own suite from cello and adapted from Lute solo, 7/8 years later. The lute's version is more polifonic. This is and more complete idea that Bach has about you own work from cello. However, Rostropovich is god. It is not change.

wwhat edition do you recomend for the Bach cello suits?

Baerenreiter is probably nicest to read from, but you should always study all 3 historical versions (Anna Magdelena, Kellner, and anonymous) all of which cam be examined as pdfs on imap. Expect to make many many many modifications and remodififications as you study them until you die :)

Why does he opt to demonstrate his ideas on the piano rather than the cello?
@iaf44545 жыл бұрын
Because it is almost imposible to play those poliphonic ideas on the cello he included some notes that are not transcribed...

another one of these excerpts he talks about how it's much easier to /see/ things (eg high and low) on the piano as you explain it. So it's a pedagogical shortcut

Friend, watch the entire film. He speaks. Then he plays. Oh my, does he play.
