I grew up in Roswell from the late 60’s to the late 80’s. There was really no mention of the UFO at all while growing up. It really didn’t become popular culture until the X-Files came along with a huge alien following. The alien museum used to be the Plains Theater and was once the only movie theater in town. I saw my first movie with a swear word there, Smokey and the Bandit. The north side of town has the nicer brick homes with better neighborhoods while the south side gets pretty rough, especially after dark. Roswell is unique in that it’s 200 miles from everything. Albuquerque, El Paso, and Lubbock all take about 3 hours. And man let me tell you there isn’t anything out there! It’s not a bad town. Many of my friends and relatives still live there, but I’m very glad that I don’t. I can’t believe Pepper’s is still going! What a legacy! That old silver silo has been there since well before I was born but the neighborhood around there has gotten really run down. Quick fact Demi Moore also lived in Roswell as a child for a time.

In 1966 I was driving from Chicago to southern Arizona near the Mexican border. I got off Route 66 and was working my way southwest towards Tucson. Just outside Roswell my 1959 Chevy's generator crapped out in the middle of the night. Got towed into Roswell where a garage rewound the generator. The tow and the generator repair cost $35.

Very cool tour. Thank you so much. I am just doing a deep dive into The Roswell crash after the Congressional Hearing on UFOs in July so this was fun. Here are some historical addresses for your next tour. Jesse Marcel Sr (of the famed photo) lived at 1300 W 7th Street. Walter G. Haut (public information officer of the RAAF - press info) lived just down the block from Jesse at 1407 W 7th Street. And Dan Wilmont (who observed the UFO from his front porch on the night of the crash and is mentioned in the article you showed lived at 105 South Pennsylvania. All close to downtown. Info came from Roswell witness books. After all I have read and seen. It was real and the cover up was brutal. If you dig deep enough and cross check it all, you will become convinced as well. It is sad that after almost 77 years the gov. still won't fess up. Come again soon. 73 George ham radio call, K9WWT.

1) Thank you for visiting NMMI. Other vloggers that go to Roswell avoid the military school as if it was radioactive. 2) The McDonald's with the flying saucer that you quickly visited has some history. The original McDonald's on that site had these magnificent paintings, depicting Chisum and cattle ranching, but around 1990, McDonald's wanted to tear down that location and replace it with what you see today. There was a protracted legal fight between the franchisee and McDonald's, but the corporation was too powerful to resist and the corporation won.
@daspicsman7 ай бұрын
The McDonald’s where I live used to have a dinosaur theme. They even had a huge T-Rex metal skeleton outside. Inside lots of history on dinosaurs and such. And where we live there aren’t any dinosaur fossils or finds of any kind. Unfortunately they got rid of everything when McDonald’s remodeled all the restaurants. The T-Rex is still there but they moved it out back where it’s much harder to see. Frankly I preferred the old format to this current modern bit.

@@daspicsman The small town where I grew up, in 1970, they had a truly magnificent Catholic church (built in 1900) that resembled the cathedrals you would see in Europe. The building needed a new roof, but the archbishop decided "Oh, to heck with it, let's build a new building." Inside and outside it resembled a new college academic building. My mother, who was not a churchgoer, was upset with the change. In Europe, you routinely find buildings that are 1,000 years old and even older than that. In the US, it's hard to find buildings that are 50 years old, because, all too often, they are torn down. In reference to the McDonald's, the company should have met the franchisee halfway, incorporating the paintings into the new building instead of the tacky tacky tacky UFO saucer.

If you go to Brownfield, Tx. Just due east of Roswell, I can tell you much about my memories of it. Born there in 1950. Family as founder family. Along with Adams. Some still reside there. We left in ‘61, 2 years after my dad was murdered in gas station hold up 12/26/59. I have so many dead relatives in the cemetery there! They grow lots of grapes there now. Cotton too. Grapevines are fairly new to the Panhandle. Adams still there with 160 acres at least of grapes. There is nice winery in Lubbock you should check out. McPherson Winery. No relation far as I know. Nice place. Great wine. I hope you backtrack there and let me know first. Lots of Brownfield stories in my head.

I attended grade school through high school in Roswell from 1958 thru 1967. Until Walker Air Force Base was shuttered in 1966 I had never heard the story of any alien encounters or UFOs. Well, after losing about 30 per cent of the population overnight, the City fathers needed something to jazz up the economy and boy, did they ever find it!

Loved Roswell when I was there in October. I never made the connection between the atomic bomb testing in 1945 in the nearby desert and the alien visit two years later until I went to the museum. Supposedly the aliens saw the bright flash from their planet (asteroid?) and came to investigate. When they arrived two years later they unfortunately crashed in a thunderstorm. It's hearing legends like this that make road trips fun!

I was in the middle of nowhere. I spotted some roads, and a town, and set down with my fuel tanks drained. I had no idea where I had landed, but the game gave me map coordinates, so I went and put them into Google Maps. I landed my weird alien ship in Roswell, New Mexico.
