Lifting & Dividing The Overgrown Nepeta

Part 2 in the Nepeta series!! We believe this is Nepeta 'Six Hills Giant' however there was no buried label so we can't be 100% sure.

i would have used a garden fork, its much easier to get through the soil than a spade

Can you put them in pots till your ready to plant them?

I had a cute cat-shaped visitor who chomped all my nepeta! Fortunately, it recovered and leafed out. I probably won’t see it bloom in 2023!

Goodness, there's hardly any room between the sedum (or whatever it's now called; telephium?) and the grass border. The nepeta will soon out-grow its allotted space.

Are you transplanting/divide in fall or spring? I have one that is getting too big for where I have it & want to divide it out but don’t know to do it now in fall or wait till spring

I'm guessing Fall based on what the other plants look like. I'm a new gardener but it looks like mature leaves there vs a start of fresh growth. But I wonder if you can't do this in spring too, the plant can bounce back and look nice the year-of :) I'm off to Google. Did you decide to split yours in fall after all?
