Square One videos are great. I am amazed that these videos are three years old yet completely relevant.

I've been using SU for years, but watching Square One tutorials reminds me of the basic things that I forgot or I am missing them and they will save some time when working on a model. Thanks Aaron. U R da man!!! :-)

OMG Thank you to the moon and back. I was watching another video about using the protractor to rotate things on each axis, but I did exactly what he said, but mine was not moving no matter what I did. I was about to give up. I'm looking on the right side of KZbin at the list of similar videos. I'M SO GLAD I CLICKED ON YOURS. YOU GOT ME ROTATING THE PIECE IN LIKE 5 SECONDS! Thank you sir. You have been the most helpful. Thumbs up and new sub here.

While you are rotating, if your cursor is inside the protractor, the angle jumps by whatever is set in "Model Info -> Units -> Angle Snapping"

the video's are extremely helpful. so much of sketchup's functionality is very subtle and really can't be learned just by using SUp. well, at least not for those of us that are learning independently. more important, the video's are helping to raise my proficiency from basic to intuitive. to be sure, my use is very basic, mostly plans for relatively simple woodworking projects, but that is a tremendous help. i NEVER start a project without modeling it in sketchup first. and being able to model cutting diagrams is very helpful. having a plan / printout makes building projects much easier and reduces the amount of mistakes in the process. and when a project is for hire, then i can show the plan to the buyer, a reality check that i'm building what they want and a way to get their signoff on the plan. SUp is just fun. THANK YOU!!!

Another benefit of Rotate vs. Move is array copy. It's simply not possible using rotate handles in Move.

Rotate with the move tool doesn't seem to work if the component is glued to a plane. The rotate handles don't appear. We have to unglue each component individually for it to function. Unless I am missing something?

Im new to sketchup. I want to move a component 90 degrees to the green axis, but the component wont stop at the green axis, it will return to the original axis. I just want it to stop on the green so i can then move the component into place rather than have it return to original position. What to do to make component stop going back to original? I have trouble finding where component option to select 90 degrees which i think might solve this problem.
@SketchUp5 ай бұрын
There is nothing in a standard component that woudl cause that to happen. It is possible you are dealign with a Dynamic Component or something, though... Probably best to post an example fo what youa re seeing on our forum (forums.sketchup.com)

I HATE the Rotate within the Move tool with the fiery passion of 1,000 suns. If I use the Move command it's because I want to MOVE something. If I want to rotate, I'll use the Rotate command. Just give me the + functionality within the Rotate command please! Rotating within the Move command makes zero sense and gets in the way of a fast work flow. It's like putting an erase function in the line tool...

Aaron. I’m sure you’ve covered this in one of your thousand awesome vids. But how are you navigating all your camera angles free of your cursor. Can’t stand switching to the orbit tool every time o want to change a view.

The middle button of a three button mouse (the scroll wheel) acts as orbit when you hold it down.

Ah! Yeah, I thought you meant in this video! For most videos I use a 3D mouse (from 3dconnexion) to move through modes. In these Square One videos I try to just use my 3 button mouse for everything

My second least favorite "feature" in sketchup. If I wanted the rotate tool I'd select it. Accidentally passing over these damn red checks has caused a lot of accidents over the years... but not nearly as annoying as the inability to turn off inferences. Still, understanding what triggers this behavior does help mitigate it a little, so thanks for that.
@garyspeed89612 жыл бұрын
AGREE TOTALLY... absolute pain in the butt.... I move things 95% of the time.. I rotate things 5% of the time... wish I could turn the bloody thing off!.. really dumb "improvement" just slowing me down, the existing rotate tool is perfectly fine... Does anyone in the Trimble actually use SKETCHUP?... if you are going to introduce these "enhancements" at least let users have the option of toggling it off.. Hell... why didn't you just add this to the Rotate tool.... seems the bleedingly obvious place for it

Personally I dont think move tool should have the rotations! It's so clunky. If the user want rotations there is rotation tool. If I want to move it should just be move. I wish there I an option to turn The rotations off for the move tool

Generally, I draw a few shapes or grab a file off 3dwarehouse. And I rarely save them one my video is done... they should mostly be quick for you to recreate though!

@@AaronMakingStuff I am referring specifically to this video, kzbin.info/www/bejne/mpqodoGber-FarM. That PB cup seemed too complex for me! I don't know maybe you can start linking the files you create with the videos. I know it would help me! Thanks for all you do.

Personaly, I hate this feature. Why would I want to rotate an object if I'm using the Move tool? There is already a Tool you can use to rotate an object, it's called the Rotate tool, and it's just one keypress away. I wouldn't hate it so much if I wasn't accidentally activating this feature by howering arount these "x"s all the time. If you want to improve Sketchup please give us at least the option to disable this useless and confusing behaviour.
@AaronMakingStuff3 жыл бұрын
I have heard this from a few people. You do t have to use it, but I find it to be a huge time saver when placing it moving components. Using this feature literally cuts the number of clicks needed to move and rotate a component in half!
