Agree with you on "paste in place". Can be a huge time and grief saver.

Another use case for cut/paste in place: Moving geometry into or out of a group or component without disturbing the rest of the component. Most common example that's happened to me is when I create something, thinking I'm working within a group, only to discover that when I hide that group, pieces of it are left hanging outside. Select those pieces, cut, edit the group, and paste in place. Fixed!

Modify move with inferencing makes it so easy to copy geometry around and place it exactly where you want it and paste in place is my go to when working on anything intricate that needs adding to existing geometry. I've usually grouped the existing geometry before creating the new more intricate stuff, then when I'm happy with it I cut it, go into the existing grouped geometry and paste in place. Saves a lot of headaches for sure.

Paste In Place, my favorite SketchUp command.

Oooh, I like how Cut/*Undo/PasteInPlace can be used to timetravel. When cutting from one model and PasteInPlace into another model the Origin is datum.

Yep I use paste in place all the time. Thanks for the vid. I think its the first one that I didn't learn anything new.

Hey Aaron! Love the content, every time I watch a video I always learn something and go. Request you to please make a video on the pop-up that says don't panic! when you save a file and what do the details mean when we check them. Additionally, your Face Cam lags in the beginning if you can figure something out. Love the videos, Keep it up!

I came here specifically looking for comments about the choppy video. Glad to read that I'm not the only one.

Yeah... sorry about that. I realized that there was an issue between the camera and OBS after I posted this video. It’s all fixed up now, though and you should not see it again!

Request: Muqarnas. There is a shameful lack of info on how they are made on the Interwebs. There was 1 SU video on it and it was sad. I followed another video from a guy with AutoCAD and got almost all of it but one piece that he no longer has the instructions for. So, yeah. These are an architectural fascination of mine and they look easy, but apparently they are not. As far as "Cut/Paste in Place", this is how I learned to move things into or out of groups and components. I can't find a better way. Sad, but true.

As far as moving things in and out of groups, try drag/drop in Outliner.
@DarkMoonDroid3 жыл бұрын
@@mwoliver Of course I already tried that, but it doesn't work right. There is no line that shows up telling me where I'm putting it and it usually ends up getting lost inside some other group I didn't want it in.

@@DarkMoonDroid Well, I agree that precision is required when dropping, that can't be argued. Descriptive naming helps, too. Anyway, it works and with practice could be equal to or better than the gyrations of cut/paste. Good luck and have fun. 😊

I'm Windows user. I tried to use Edit>Copy, New>Paste. But SketchUp asked me if i want to save my file instead of opening straight up new file like yours. What's your secret Aaron? :D

I cannot understand why the SketchUp people have this morbid fascination with not providing a one letter shortcut for copy. Every graphic programs have that! Copy is one of the most used commands, but I know they won't change that just to spite people. Not cool!
@SketchUp Жыл бұрын
By default, the Copy/Paste shortcuts are Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V. You can customize them to whatever you like, Gvl.
