Hello I just had the Rotational chair done and after 3 days, I haven't had any dizzy problems, when moving my head left to right or up and down. Going down the stairs or up the elevator now --I don't haven't had any problems and its been about 3 1/2 weeks!:) been suffering with dizziness and balance issues for 1 yr and 1/2. This is break through for me so far n hope it stays like this bc my quality of life is better again.

I just went to a Balance Center today to have one of those tests, along with a VNG. The Rotary Chair was actually REALLY groovy (sorry, I've watched too many Austen Powers movies...). I was diagnosed with vertigo soon afterwards. Not exactly too happy about that, but meh, at least the Rotary Chair was really fun.

@DOUG FERGUSON - I'm glad that you got some answers. The eyes and the inner ear system work together to keep you in an up right balance. When your inner ear system has been compromised but your visual sense is working the way it should, you turn your head and your systems are trying to catch up with each other and that's why you feel like your awaiting your mind to catch up. Look into Vestibular Rehab Therapy and retrain the brain to recognize the deficit.

Does this test cause patients who suffer with vertigo to become worse while testing? I have been scheduled for some vestibular test, but im afraid the test will make me worse.

Hi, ya i ended up with a concussion and a hairline skull fracture as well. The broken bones in my ear i guess cause my balance issues. What causes my vertigo ? Its like i turn my head and it takes a second for my mind to catch up to the responce of the head movement.. .i cycle 16 miles every day and have done so ever since the accedent but its not the same as its always a clouded ride. thanks again for the replies. Doug

@gladheateher4now Rotational chair testing is conducted in a round enclosed room with a chair in the middle that rotates back and forth in an arc. This motion is precisely controlled by a computer, which records your eye movements during the test using infrared video goggles.

@gladheaterher4now Yes, when you do the diagnostic testing portion you cannot "fake" the testing. The test results will show your response of what's going on in your inner ear system. You very likely could've also suffered a concussion too, that can also damage your inner ear system. I hope it all works out for you. Let me know what they find out.

@gladheateher4now Rotational chair testing determines if the the semi-circular canals of the inner ear are functioning properly, where ENG/VNG tests by themselves can be false positive or false negative.. ENG/VNG are usually false positive because ear wax can sometimes block one of the ear canals. Rotary chair is not affected by mechanical obstructions of the ear like wax. ENG/VNG can be false negative particularly in situations where there is damage to each ear that has not been accounted for.

Hi, does the rotating chair test make you nauseous or dizzy during the test itself? I could never handle riding carousels or flying planes have always been making me sick! Thanks in advance for the answer!

The bones can do damage to your inner ear system which can leave you with dizziness/vertigo and balance issues. However, you could've sustained an inner ear concussion which is also causing the issues. Hard for me to say "what" it is considering were not doing your testing, but I can give you the mostly likely reasons. Hope this has been a help for you.

I just had a very inconclusive VNG test today. None of the stimuli provoked a response. I've had vertigo, dizziness, and "shaking vision" when walking or on a bumpy road. Think the rotational chair would be a good next step? I'm seeing the ENT doc in a week to discuss the VNG test.
