Rotem, I want to say thanks so much. My jazz teacher heard me playing a bit of this chord melody, and he wants me to start the song doing that by myself as an intro to a band arrangement, making a guitar feature. So I play a chorus as an intro, and then he counts in the band after and he wants me to solo in the song too, its super cool :)

You really appreciate it, I can't say how much we appreciate you teaching us this beautiful arrangement. Thanks so much for your patience. Although most of us can't play like you we love the beauty of the song and the music. This is a great song to begin learning chord melody - it's nice to hear an alternative to Autumn Leaves in this context. You do a nice job in keeping it simple and introducing some harmonic concepts, like the melody note mostly being the 3rd of the chord. Even just the root and 3rd can be so expressive (especially with a touch of reverb :)) ), and is enough to get going before taking the next step to work out inversions etc. Would love to see more of this, it sits nicely between the no theory pseudo-tab approach of some channels (too little) and the full on harmonic analysis of others (sometimes too much). If you haven't already, maybe you could do a video to introduce basic concepts of harmonic analysis, with a recommendation of some good starter standards to apply this approach to? Cheers and thanks!!!

This is awesome - I checked out some of your videos after your colab', and I think I'll be a regular here now. Calling out the string/fret numbers is probably a little unnecessary perhaps? If people are trying to get their heads around jazz, their ears and eyes should be good enough to figure it out. I reckon it'd be awesome if you just said the notes. There's also a couple little spots where you made a mistake with the finger placements - which might be confusing if people are relying on them (i.e @6:13)... maybe save yourself the trouble and just go with note names (if anything!) Beautiful playing. :)
@RotemSivanGuitar
@RotemSivanGuitar 3 жыл бұрын
Lol, yea maybe you're right! Thanks for that. I'm just trying to be more clear. Any advice with that?
@jasonwalker1873
@jasonwalker1873 3 жыл бұрын
@@RotemSivanGuitar for me, I think intervals and the relationships between the notes are great - so it can all easily transfer across the fretboard to different shapes, rather than frets and strings which doesn’t transfer (without understanding the notes, you know what I mean?) Some people might find a little pop up box with a chord chart useful - particularly for more unusual chords? As far as learning to play a tune goes - what you did is awesome and I got my head into it pretty fast! Maybe a bit more stuff on the relationships between the chords like tonal centres, key changes, and any substitutions, would be awesome!
@jasonwalker1873
@jasonwalker1873 3 жыл бұрын
Also @9:16 with the chord names - maybe if someone is trying to break through into the jazz world without a lot of theoretical understanding, they may find the difference between what you're saying and what the chart says confusing. Obviously the intervals and chords you're playing DO match both - but the relationship between what you're saying and what the chart reads could be a bit clearer. I'm not trying to pick the video apart for 'mistakes' - but I sure am watching it a lot, it's awesome!

Why dont you just say the notes you are playing instead of the frets? I think at principle it's easier for guitarrists to know the frets but it will slowly making the guitarrist think more about frets and less about notes, which i think it's as trap
