Pat Metheny said in one of the interviews that for him a quest of being a musician is all about listening, not playing. And the way to develop as a musician is to start hearing oneself in the context better. Nice to see this idea reiterated, especially that it is not spread wide enough. Thank you Rotem!

It’s crazy that we put so much effort into playing and not a lot into listening. Thank you for the call out ❤

It be a sort of meditation too!! I feel so great when I use my ears that you learn us. Often I've been playing and looking on tv at the same time and that is worthless!!

1. Listen deeply, really pay attention 2. Connecting emotionally (100% CPU) 3. Articulate how what you are playing makes you feel (lol, wish I could articulate that sentence better!) 4. Listen to the sound from the outside. 5. Practice with love and consistency. (truthful attention) 6. Look at the Beast .. identify what is really hard for you (that you want to do) and do that first thing every day. Maybe you have multiple beasts AND the beast will change.. but look at the beast square in the eye first thing . 7. Some things don’t take much time. Identify specific skills/ bits of theory and raise yourself up .. just learn them. (hello, chord substitution,.. what?!). 8. Learn from the music. 9. Singing. 10. Take your time.

I appreciate your lesson here with your sharing from your own mistakes and for your thoughtful encouragement. I may not play it very well but the guitar is just an amazing instrument and life pursuit.

Day one: it brought me to a place where I realized I actually fell in love with the guitar. I was oscillating between two major 7th chords, but they seemed endless and magical. I was being taken away by the sounds and enjoying them. Can't wait for day 2

That was really well articulated. I find it so hard to actually listen to what I'm playing as I do it. It's only when I play it back I instantly hear the right or wrong notes as well as any timing issues. That outsideness is definitely something to strive for

This is great. I am a hobbyist so my playing time is limited but this will help me make the most of it. I sometimes forget to really be present in the moment. Thanks, and as always your playing is wonderful.

Thank you Rotem ! Maybe you could add one step to the process : recording yourself to listen what you are playing and how it make you feel 😃 And moreover it help your technique and your timing ..

Today, the jazz music you play is less meaningful than the sound of the Palestinian people crying because of the Israeli genocide 😢 I love your lesson, Bro ❤
