I'm actually going to do a review of the Rothco cup, lid and stove as well later this week. I got the complete set as well and NOTHING fit together. I'm glad you had better luck.

Rothco is hit and miss. Some stuff is good and some is junk. I happened to get a good set

The Rothco set is obvious a subpar repro, but I've seen more than a hundred Rothco canteen sets, and every last one fit perfectly. Rotchco only makes one size of each item, every piece is made on the same machine, and there is no way for the size to get screwed up. It can't happen. Pieces can get bent, but they are the right size. They do fit tightly, and you do have to have each turned the right way, but if nothing is bent, they do fit. I'd be seriously interested in seeing a set that didn't fit together because it's really impossible for none of the pieces to fit, if you bought the actual kit. This said, buy the real thing. A real G.I. canteen cook set is around thirty dollars, and sometimes a good deal cheaper. Why buy a repro when you can get the real thing for not much more money? Rothco makes a lot of extremely good products, but this is not one of them. The stove is cheap, thin aluminum when you should have stainless steel, the cover falls apart quickly, and the cup and lid, while pretty fair, are still not as good as the real thing.

I have that set. The canteen cup cover does snap on, tightly. But when cooking with it I never snap it on. I don't think it would be a good idea as you may be creating a pressure cooker with no relief valve - BOOM!

I never snap it on when cooking either but do it I need to let something sit and/or cool off...

Does the lid fit in the front pocket? My setup is the aluminum Rothco canteen, aluminum cup and aluminum stove. I use the standard Alice clip pouch and added on the Rothco bag shoulder strap because I found that I carry on the shoulder a lot for convenience. But, the straps are a little iffy, and, I wanted to get the vintage canvas pouch with shoulder straps. I see in the video that the lid can fit in the main compartment if not, so, not a big deal if not. Unfortunately I cant seem to find an aluminum lid, only stainless steel. But, not a big deal. I've never had a problem with durability of aluminum. And, being lighter and heats quicker / cools quicker I prefer it over stainless steel.

No the front pocket is too small. It does fit in the main compartment though

I am not sure if the pathfinder set would fit. This cover does have some room in it, but if the path finder is materially bigger than a GI set then you may have a problem.

The lid should fit a bit loosely. I don't know why so many think it should snap into place. It shouldn't. I paid forty bucks for a complete, real G.I. issue set I just bought, everything is perfect condition, and it included a G.I. mess kit. Rothco makes excellent reproduction bags, but they make the worst canteen cover out there. Or at least the worst I've seen anywhere. The stitches come loose quickly. You also need to be able to carry the cup lid under the cup, or you will eventually get some warping. The cup and lid you have are actually pretty good. They deserve a real canteen cover, and a stove. You can get a real G.I. canteen cover on Amazon for as little as eight dollars for an old style cover, or fifteen dollars for a new style. The new style will last forever. Then all you need is the stove. If you shop around, you can find a real G.I. stove for five or six bucks. The most I've ever paid was ten bucks, and that was only because I was in a hurry. I bought another mess kit in excellent, completely undented condition for nine bucks not long ago, and another for twelve. Combine the mess kit with the real deal canteen cook set, and you have all the bushcraft or bugout cookware your ever need, except for one Billy pot, or one extra stainless steel cup, take your choice.

I agree. I have a few GI issue covers that go on my ALICE rig and they are bulletproof. This is just a light duty cover that I bought on a whim. I never really snap the cover on my cup, but it will if I need it to...
