There has been a lot of hard work here. IMHO the wheels are very 1980s italodisco. The good news is that I'm sure a firm somewhere produces a slightly wider replica of the originals allowing 70 section tyres that would be a 5 minute job to change over.

@@Andrew-vx2ls You can reband wheels easy enough, we have that on our 356.

Didn’t care for the rims either.
@gregzoller90039 ай бұрын
Not partial to them. Tires are too low-profile and rim design is very busy, and shiny, which isn’t really the tone of this car otherwise. The bumper is an interesting idea tho.

You were kind with the comparison between the simple 356 lines and the complexity of the wheel design. The interior trim in the front trunk is brilliant. Wish I had it in mine.

I was really surprised and impressed with the front trim, really clean.

Would be great to know more about the vw gearbox modification. I'm just about to the the same on my 356 shell :)

Oh I'll try and get some details and post something, the VW gearbox does need a new mount so I'll see if I can get the details

@@OutlawGarage 4sp or 5sp? rev limit / calculated top speed in gears? tire sizes? weight? very nice craft-work... an outlaw makes sense when the donor is a basket case. (personally, I'd ditch the rear seats - weight - but maybe he has kids). bigger tank (& huge rear tires) may help w/ oversteer. light-touch steering & tossability traded for outright perf. & de luxe touring.

@@grumpy9478 4 speed VW type 1 gearbox. rear seat delete would look good.. I'm never too sure about the weight and I get asked a lot about the weight of my 356, I need to find that out.

Great build, not sure on the gearbox and engine combo.
@OutlawGarage2 жыл бұрын
I think as the car didn't have an engine or gearbox its not a bad option considering the prices of a Porsche 356 gearbox and engine, plus the hp you get. Hard choice when building an Outlaw I think. It's the same issue when we were building our Outlaw with a missing 356 engine.
@johnrodgers60492 жыл бұрын
Wow, awesome! Kinda surprised on the engine choice with all the money spent. The wheels are polarizing. I personally think they are too big for the car. I like some sidewall on tires on vintage cars. Don’t like the shiny chrome or the busy pattern, but I’m not writing the check.
@OutlawGarage2 жыл бұрын
Polarising is a good description. What I really like about them is that the owner is doing something different. I'm not 100% sure I would have picked them but I like that it challenges the outlaw and 356 scene. Rolling up to a car show with this would be cool.

Need a light there; hard to see a lot. Looks like the nose is not from a 356? More like an early 911? How does the engine stay cool without the engine tin?
@OutlawGarage2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I think with the bumper drop and tuck along with the indicator change to the earlier model it makes the front end look totally different. I get what you mean though about it looking different. Seems to run really cool but I think after the video they added some tin.
