The thing about Porsches (of all ages) is that they they are monuments to the finest engineering and great quality materials packaged into a car that can usually be driven on the road daily, cherished for its road manners, and loved for its aesthetics, both in the metal, and the purist way that they drive.

His creations are all bespoken builds, paid in full prior to actual donor car de-assembly/reassembly... the cost of approximately $500,000 is in addition to the cost of the donor vehicle and the time required can be a year to transform and deliver the final product, with a year of waiting in production queue prior to that

Personally, I like to keep them as original as possible, even though they are not perfect compared to todays standards. It's part of the fun to have an imperfect car. "I'm an artist". No! Artists create their own art in small series. Horacio Pagani's an artist - and probably the only one in today's auto industry. This guy's a restorer doing expensive "restomods", nothing out of the ordinary in California.

"Art" can only exist for its own sake, and can serve no other purpose. This is a car, therefore it cannot be art. So it follows that he cannot be an artist. He's not even the original designer, he's just fiddling with someone else's creation.

There is something depressing about these cars being associated with these prices. I was sad when they went from $25,000-$35,000 to $1000,000 almost overnight. Pretty much assuring that i will never be able to own one. Oh well, if i were younger maybe i could wait and like the custom cars his grandfather did i could find a few of these in 15 years or so when they have become chipped up, or worse because it was a "usable" classic that therefore got used a lot. Things happen. A car gets neglected. Rich guy goes to prison or goes broke. I know the fate that befell some of the great old customs. Finding the Golden Sahara or Ala Kart faded and in disrepair. Nope. The only Porsche a regular guy can aspire to is one 10 to 15 years old. At the depths of it's depreciation before it starts it's long vaunted rise to sainthood.

@bruceburns16727 жыл бұрын
The Germans should thank their lucky stars that the British are so incompetent as a nation because their car industry would be the best in the world considering the concepts and design ability , but it all falls down getting it into production with their inherent laziness and inability to finish their products with the details it requires for reliability , you only have to look at the British aircraft industry in the 1950's to see their capability but it all collapsed into nothing just like their car industry .
@snoebay887 жыл бұрын
So Rolls Royce,Bentley and Morgan are all junk? What about the Avro Vulcan,Tornado and Typhoon,English Electric Lightning What about Rolls Royce aircraft engines.Add the B-57, manufactured under license from English Electric. Still in use in the US after 59 years! Junk my ass !
@bruceburns16727 жыл бұрын
Rolls Royce are German so are Bentley , before the Germans took it over they was a saying if you like Rolls Royces get two as one will always be in the dealers getting repaired , manufacturing does succeed in Britain as long as British management do not have a leg in , the British are not a capable people any more , they have the lowest productivity in Europe the reason Ford moved car manufacturing out , on all the car sites it is always brought up about questionable British quality even now , the past Socialist Union controlled country still has a long way to recover from the Fabian influence just like Russia with its experiment with Communism and east Germany is still working on ridding itself from the free lunch society from the past Communist era .
@pyythons377 жыл бұрын
Ever hear of The Marshall Plan? I didn't think so. At the end of WW2, Europe had been bombed flat. No factories. No housing. No food. Who steps in? THe Victors. The USA with tons of money, etc. Let's get Europe back on it's feet as quick as we can, to stop the incursions of the USSR. Now, England got blasted pretty hard, too. And from 1939 through 1945, there was no new technology that wasn't directly related to the war effort. Everything else was belt driven late 19th century stuff. Pretty hard to compete when the competition is being blostered and you aren't. Know why the Land Rover is aluminum? ASll that was available was aircraft aluminum. No steel to be found. England did not end war time rationing until the mid-fifties. Why? They couldn't afford to buy food, because they were paying off debt to the USA, who was sending it all over Europe. And they have to compete with these restrictions in place. They did well. Most of the electronic innovation in WW2 came from Great Britain. Their code breakingt was the best. Their Lancaster Bomber could easily carry twice the bombload of any US built plane, until the introduction of the B-29. Nothing out of place with Brits. The problem is with your history.
@snoebay887 жыл бұрын
So Bruce; What about those RR aircraft engines? One of the best fighters of WWII,the P-51 Mustang was powered by,wait for it, a RR merlin engine. Today there are thousands of aircraft powered by RR made in England engines! German car engineering? Ask anyone who owns a BMW or Mercedes made in the last 20 years how reliable they are. There are 2 BMW's in my family both cars are repair shop queens. As a matter of fact one of the cars needed to have its entire braking system replaced 3 weeks from new. I might mention VW with it's dieselgate scandal. Oh and the Mini which is made by BMW is a POS as well . Please don't tell me the Brits aren't capable anymore.
@bruceburns16727 жыл бұрын
The Brits have got to stop looking back for greatness , I suppose its why the Germans looked to the future after ww2 as their past was so horrific they could not bare to look back , Britain's past since ww2 is a tragedy not worth looking at and they certainly have had the smile wiped off their face and have nothing to gloat about so it's about time they got off the arses and do what the Germans are doing now simply excelling at everything that they put their minds too , I cannot believe that a nation that is so close to a increible economic and industrial success story and hasn't got the nouse to simply implement the same programs and systems , the Chinese are smart enough , how do you think they have been so successful do you think that is their own ability , no way , so the day Britain has the intelligence to just take from the best of the world until they are capable of being the best as they once were , they are going to continue with the huge trade deficits of imported goods that the Brits love so much because they haven't got something local that is comparable .
