I just saw a video of old trailers and commercials for this movie, and all of them have Luke’s lightsaber as blue, not to mention the official theatrical poster as well. I couldn’t imagine how surprising it must’ve been to finally watch the movie only for it to be green.

fun fact: the reason his lightsaber was changed from blue to green was actually because the blue lightsaber matched the color of Tatooine's sky and it would've been hard to see. they also never intended for there to be green lightsabers or other lightsaber colors, lightsabers originally were only supposed to be either blue or red. so basically what I'm saying is that green lightsabers only exist simply because of an editing problem.

Nothing beats the green. Specifically the green saber from ROTJ. Even the green sabers in other films don’t look as good. The green from ROTJ is a special kind of green.

I agree. Luke’s green blade stands out against other green sabers and lightsabers in general because if you look at most of the sabers in the other films and animation the lightsabers all have a white core with a colored glow but Luke’s saber has a green core and a green glow.This is something that only “The Mandalorian” has gotten right which makes me love DF and JF even more. The flashback scenes in 8 and 9 didn’t even have this.

But the thing is is that there are different colours of green in that forest. It was much easier to see the lightsaber despite all the greenery. Seeing a blue lightsaber with a blue sky and desert landscape is much harder to see.

Like the force ghost scene doesn't even make any sense, like the only people that I can see being there other than anakin, obi, yoda, qui-gon, are ahsoka and kanan. Luke knew basically nothing about being a force ghost. Leia only trained as jedi for a small brief amount of time, so she shouldn't know. Ben Solo, the best character in the sequels treated like this. You turn ben back to the light. You give him the skywalker saber because he is the last skywalker. You make him kill the knights of ren to provide that kylo is gone. You make him stand up to palpatine with his force partner with rey. You make him get up first since he is the more dominant part of the dyad. You push him off a cliff since he is the last skywalker expecting him to climb up to make a heroic return. You basically make rey the hero of the movie despite the entire movie trying to run away from her problems and make her death feel sad despite ben BEING thrown off a cliff. You kill of ben solo with the classic force ghost disappearance. You don't make him appear at the end of the movie alongside his *mother* and *uncle*. You put in the world of worlds instead of just making him a force ghost despite dying like a force ghost. You are a dumbass. You are the writers.

It kind of was... The prop was the one that Alec Guinness used during his fight scene in "A New Hope", which was slightly different from the one he used in other scenes. The thing is, in all 9 movies they used different lightsaber props for fighting, since they were more comfortable to wield. The in-universe explanation, though, is that Luke used the same schematics as Obi-Wan's own lightsaber, which he found in his abandoned home in Tatooine.

Having the green lightsaber instead in this looks a lot better in my opinion. I still remember watching "Return Of The Jedi" when it was originally shown in the cinemas back in 1983 (I was only 7 at this time. J am now almost 45!) and I remember that the whole place went absolutely CRAZY when Luke ignited his green lightsaber for the first time. This scene still sends chills through me to this day. I have watched this movie so many times with my mom over the years and it took her years to notice that Luke had a green lightsaber in this movie and a blue lightsaber in the other two. It was an obvious fact to me but apparently it was not obvious to her. My mom disagrees that it is a commonly known fact that Luke's lightsaber was green in RoTJ and blue in the first two films.

I’ve heard a few reasons why they switched the color from blue to green; one is the most obvious, the blue saber just wasn’t showing up that great against the desert sky and sunlight. The other is that it was felt it would’ve been confusing to audience members (particularly children) as to how Luke got his blue saber back when he lost it in ESB, so to fix the confusion and to solve the aforementioned color problem against the sky, it was decided to make the saber a different color to both show up better against the desert sky and to visually show that this saber is in fact NEW.

I didnt know it was originally blue here. I always imagined that luke had a green saber from his training with yoda. Green sabers being a symbol of force mastery, and a more refined saber. The blue ones being thicker and more deadly for jedi knights when they need to kill or block incoming blaster bolts. The green ones are thinner And lighter to wield. But are also more difficult to use when defending oneself.

Funny, seeing it this way, yah it looks terrible even avainst the sand. The glow doesn't look right. With the green, it actually appears to be glowing super concentrated light that even appears to have a glow in the broad daylight blinding sun of the desert. And look being from Tattoine, it kind of completes the loop with Luke coming into his own as a Jedi and building a new light saber with a new color. Even though it wasn't meant as a plot device, it really works for that as well!
