I like the symbolism with both sabers. The blue symbolizes the Skywalker Legacy, and using Anakin’s old lightsaber to fight him as Vader carries a lot of weight. But with the green, it symbolizes Luke becoming his own Jedi because he built it himself. I like both of the lightsabers, I wouldn’t be able to choose which one I liked better.

Y'know, because the Kyber Crystals were hard to come-by during the Reign of the Empire, it's theorized that the Green Crystal for Luke's Lightsaber came from _Qui-Gon's_ Lightsaber. (Obi-Wan still had it after all these years, and Luke found it in his hut on Tatooine.)

i feel that the theme of the original trilogy was the new generation (luke) trying to save the old generation (anakin) which is a strong and powerful theme. the sequel trilogy missed a great opportunity imo with kylo ren and his relationship with his parents, the theme could have now been reversed with the old generation (han and leia) trying to save the new generation (kylo ren), you kinda feel it when han solo confronts kylo in TFA but imo the whole sequel trilogy was a missed opportunity.

That's a interesting point. In fact this whole theme about old generation vs new generation is actually a theme in all the star wars movies, not just the original trilogy, but both the prequels and the sequel trilogy. With the prequel, the story focus on Anakin as he goes from a kid who admire the Jedis, who wanted to be one of them and free the slaves of his planet, to slowly lose his faith in them and eventually join Palpatine and help kill the jedis. It was the Jedis mistakes that result in the Empire ascension and the transformation of Anakin into Darth Vader. In the sequel trilogy, both Rey and Kylo Ren represent both sides of the new generation, people were inspired by the stories of the old generation (Luke, Leia, Han). In the case of Kylo, he was inspired by Vader and end up following his footsteps up until TLJ where he finally decided to follow a different path, killing his master Snoke and try to kill everyone who opposed him, beliving that the only create a new future is by destroying the past. Rey on other hand, start first inspired by Luke's legend, wanting to learn about the force, believing that there is a connection with her past, maybe representing that she is not a nobody but her parents are someone important like Luke. But after meeting Luke, learning everything he went through and even failed in her first atempt to save Kylo by playing act the original trilogy story, she is forced to accepts the facts : history is not repeating itself. She is not someone special and her parents were nobody. However, even after accepting that, she doesn't follow Kylo Ren's philosophy, choosing to go save her friends and help them fight the first order. She choose to learn from the mistakes of the past and not let it define her (too bad that all this was ruined by RoS). Even Luke and Han kind go through the same arc. Han tries to save Kylo in TFA while Luke, after meeting Rey and interacting again with Yoda, also learns to overcome the mistake he made in the past and help the rebels escape. I don't think neither one of them did a good job with the execution of these ideas compare to the original trilogy, but the ideas itself were still good.

That’s the point of the scene, and ultimately the entire movie. Luke taps into the dark side to beat Vader but his strength is in the fact that he makes a conscious decision to stop and throw down his weapon. He succeeds where Anakin previously failed. This scene is why I love this movie. George Lucas created a world where the protagonist is winning a physical fight against the antagonist, but in doing so he’s actually losing. What a stellar narrative that culminates in the ultimate Jedi move - throwing down his weapon and rejecting that violence and anger. This dynamic is also symbolized in Luke’s clothing - he wears all black on the outside but by the end of the scene his tunic flaps outwards and is white, showing that even though he came close to falling, the light inside him was always there and won in the end.

At the time the intent was the Jedi had blue blades and the Sith had red. That was it. Period. All the nonsense with different colored blades and the "meanings" behind them all came out of a sea of badly written books and companions just to sell toys. Originally they were a technological sword. In early drafts even Stormtroopers carried them. The original novel says that lightsabers were once widely used and still were in certain parts of the galaxy. They were a tool, not religious fetish objects. All the lore that's grown up around them is pretty silly and actually diminishes what once had a sense of mystery and even mysticism about it.

Fun fact! Luke completed his training and built his new lightsaber using a green kyber. During his return to his homeworld, Tatooine, to rescue his friend Han Solo from Jabba, he was guided by the Force to Kenobi's hut. There, he found a few things Kenobi had left behind that were useful to him, including the missing parts he needed for his lightsaber's construction. Obi-wan had kept his old masters lightsaber in the chest along with Anakin's old lightsaber. Luke used the parts he found in the construction of his new saber.

When Vader mentions converting Leia to the dark side, Luke's fear/anger at having her threated made him attack Vader aggressively. Even Sidious said he was basically 99% there, he just had to finish off Vader.Yes, Luke using dark force Luke as like the symbol of light side force is a bit messed if you think that his defining moment as a Jedi was using the dark side to defeat Vader.

The blue works really well, especially when they’re under the platform with a lot of other blues, but I personally prefer the green in the end and I’m glad the blue didn’t work well on Tatooine. The green really set this stage of Luke apart in the OT and helped showcase a change for him, and it helped with any confusion one may have had if they didn’t pay enough attention to the hilts to show that he made a new one as soon as he uses it.

Although mechanical limbs are fixed to human's in the SW universe, those robotic limbs are attached to a module that is connected to one's nervous system. This is why Luke and Vader are able to feel pain. Found this online

Green is my favorite color so I might be a little biased, but the main reason I love Luke's green lightsaber was because it symbolizes that his journey as a jedi is complete. He didn't need his dad's saber anymore because Luke was a different person and in the mythology of Star wars green sabers were the symbol of a jedi who were more in tune with the force, while blue sabers were more warriors with their jedi lifestyle. Anakin was more of a warrior than a jedi, while Luke trained to hone his skills as a jedi much more than his dad did in terms of mastering the force.
