RotMG - Should Techmech Be Banned?

Clearly this subject is very split, so I encourage everyone to have healthy discussion in the comments below. (Although, knowing the internet, that may not be possible).

I actually agree with you 100%, and I'd like to think that even if I wasn't your fan boy I would still agree. Honestly, if you replace TechMech with any other player, that player wouldn't be banned. I think they banned him only because he's a popular KZbinr and they don't want him to influence other players. For example, if I posted the same video as TechMech and Kabam saw it, I don't think they would care.

I have kind of the same opinion but the thing is here : it's written in the ToS (that everyone signs to play realm) that, first, griefing, harrassing etc... is bannable, but also, that assissting, permitting or encouraging this is bannable too. So from that point, even if it may seem unfaire, they can ban everyone who was here just watching the scene. And they have the right of perma ban anyone who breaks the ToS. I think that's a good exemple of life being unfair but, that's how it works

+Neo Rotmg Do you understand what griefing is? At it's very basis, its giving other players grief, which by killing other players, or at least assissting in doing so, is obviously griefing. Griefing as it is generally defined now, is basically irritating, frustrating, and/or harrassing other players. I'd say ent-sitting is quite irritating and frustrating.

A bit of additional info: According to PMs made between Tech and a RotMG Admin, he apparently used too many full-caps words (or something along these lines, there may have been more examples of Tech typing while being a bit heated due to his ban, not gonna rewatch his update vid) when trying to discuss the conditions of the ban set for the buffing fiasco. Due to the admin seeing the messages exchanged as rather derisive (and due to it being a "violation" of their ToS), they replied with a single dismissive response, stating that his account was permanently terminated, and that he was not to speak of this again. I disagree with the decisions made for the most part, even though I myself was killed by an ent sitter after the ordeal (rip 5/8 arch btw). Sure, I was mad about it, but mainly at the person who did it, and not "that one guy on KZbin who made a video where he unknowingly was thrown into a mode of grieving that he never experienced before." TL;DR There's more to Tech's ban than just the ent sitting, as PMs reveal, and people mad at Tech just need to get over the fact that they died to a person ent sitting. Hopefully this will just play out like Liinkii's ban...

About that last point you made, I think that the situation would have been drastically different had Techmech not been there. The hacker he was in a call with was doing the hacking because he knew that Techmech was recording. I also think that Techmech's video publicized and popularized the ent sitting that is going on and this trend would not be nearly as large as it is now had the video not been made. Also, in an analogy where the hacker is the murderer, the ent is the weapon, and the person dying to the ent is the victim, Techmech would be considered an accessory to the murder.

What I don't understand is why Techmech is banned, but all the hacker caught on recordings and other internet resources aren't fully tracked down. Sure, maybe his decision wasn't the best, and to also add "defeats" the whole purpose of video games like rotmg itself, let the guy do what he wants. I think kabam is just trying to get attention with the his whole situation by banning him right away. Doesn't make any sense.

(On your point) Yes anyone could drive people away ( intentionally or not) so it's not a crime, but yes, get-away drivers do intend on bringing the criminals away, so they get punished. I loved hearing your opinion, it was brilliant. something I want to add is that Kabam is honestly becoming more and more corrupt. like someone else said in the comments, dying is part of the game, but if Kabam actually wanted to fix the problem they would've revived the killed characters, banned the hacker, and not ban Techmech. I feel like Kabam is being just like another form of corruption out there, Kabam is scaring people into submission by taking a well known player out of the game.

Here is the main problem with what Techmech did. He PUBLICISED ent sitting and ENCOURAGED it. Now that, is absolutley breaking the terms and conditions. The problem with what he did was not that he buffed the ents and watched as people died, it was the simple fact that he turned ent sitting into a huge thing, and now that everyone (almost) knows about it, it has become a MASSIVE problem in almost every realm in popular servers such as USNW and USSW. Techmech new perfectly well that this would turn into the new avatar troll, and he went through with it. As you could probably tell, I very well agree with his ban.

I think TechMech shouldn't receive a ban, but should definitely be banned next time. The events might've been the same if TechMech wasn't there, but the hacker might not have done it at all because TechMech isn't recording. Not to mention Arkani sent in a support ticket after losing his prized rogue. A Perma-ban was too extreme but since the video has so many views, Kabam probably wanted to use TechMech as an example to discourage other people from griefing.

You're trying to tell me that guilty by association isn't a legitimate and valid strategy in assigning a suitable punishment for ALL involved? Alright, let's draw another parallel to real life then. Say there's a gun dealer. And he's in a talk with a potential buyer, and the buyer says he's gonna take the gun and shoot up a school. But the buyer has passed all background checks, qualifications, etc. and can legally buy a gun. But he has just confided in the seller that he plans to use the gun for murder. If the seller decides to still continue and sell the gun to him, then is the seller at fault? Or is he completely innocent? In itself, selling the gun, or buffing the ent, is not illegal in any way. But knowingly doing people they know will use it to kill others, is aiding and abetting in a punishable crime. Any thoughts?

+Frank Zhang If the gun dealer doesn't sell or tech not kill the ents, the outcome is the same. The crazy guy goes to another guy to buy it or the hacker and rotmgtroller still kill the people. The only problem is going to the cops or saying its fake. Not illegal(i think) but immoral. Deserves at most a warning. It's also like putting on social media a foolproof plan for a shooting or something or publicizing a way to kill people, ent sitting. Kabam just wants to scare the community, even though koolkid2002 has the foolproof ent sitting plan on his yt. Stupid decision from Kabam and not a good business plan. I expected a smarter response. I totally agree with you on the premise that it wasn't necessary his fault but I still think the he should banned. Well, at least for a little while While he it probably wouldn't change the situation much if he wasn't there, he was still technically a part of it. It's as if someone was bulling someone else and all they did was stand watch it happen and laugh, I'd say they still had an affect on what happened, they encouraged what happen he helped them keep going. And while I can't say this for sure it could have been his idea or he could have found the ent ancients for them. Again while he didn't do anything directly he was still part of it. So in my opinion he should take responsibility for what he did. (Although it is just a game and this much debate about it serves little purpose I still think he should be banned)

He was banned for associating himself with hackers which he did. Idk if that's against ToS (it should be if it isn't) but Kabam gave a reason in the e-mail they sent to Techmech and banned him for THAT reason.

I absolutely think mech should NOT be banned. As you said, he didn't do anything. He shouldn't be paired with those that did something just because he didn't stop them. Morally, he's kind of a douche. However, according to the game's rules, he didn't break ANY and he's merely independant/neutral. Anybody who died during that event, died because of what they chose to do. It's their fault for teleporting. At the same time, you could say it's the hacker's fault for "tricking" them into doing so, but aside from hacking (which should get them banned), calling out random dungeons isn't even against the rules as far as I'm concerned. Think about it this way, if you saw somebody robbing a store, threatening to shoot anybody who moved, would you try to intervene and most likely get shot? Whether you do or not is up to you. However, NEITHER of the options are against the law. Sure, you might be thought of as an asshole for not saving people's lives by the community, but would you be arrested for it? No.

This might be an extreme example, but in real life, if you see someone getting killed and you don't intervene in any way, you go to prison. On a (much) smaller scale, Techmech could have saved a lot of characters. I do agree that banning him permanently is a bit too much though.

To be fair, if you try to clear the ents, then you risk death yourself, with that many in close quarters, that alone means he had no obligation to help, standing there watching isnt a bad thing either, as he got the hacker on video, but he could have easily said no dont tp, and that is where my issue is, he also seems to be agging on the people in his call, so thats another issue. some punishment is in order, for not doing anything but a permaban, thats just kinda silly

Although I agree with most of what you're saying, I believe tech SHOULD be banned for at least a week. I definitely don't agree with perma, though. Even though the ents still would have been buffed whether he was there or not (most likely) he did glorify it in a way, and make it look like its fun, funny, or cool. He should realize that the majority of his viewers are younger (nothing against that) and still impressionable. Now, if he was showing footage through the hackers instead, and talking about what they were doing, and warning people, instead of being their little getaway vehicle as someone else in the comments said, then I feel that would be different. Basically, I feel that he helped kill those people. Even though he didn't do anything wrong in the sense of buffing ents, he knew what they were doing. I don't think he should have had to stop it, but I do believe that he should have watched instead if he was planning on making a video of it.

I feel like tech mech shouldn’t be banned.The hacker and rotmg troller could have easily bufffed them if they wanted too.what I’m trying to say is that if they thought they wouldn’t be able to kill people with unbuffed ents then they would have buffed them.also I feel like he didn’t directly or indirectly killed them because I feel even without him buffing the ents they still would’ve killed everybody.but I think tech mech should be banned for a week or so because he used spawned ents(correct me if I’m wrong)to get the quiver which is technically cheating. P.S yes I know I’m extremely late

If tech didn't upload the video he would've been fine I think,but he did post it showing people that watching people die to Ent hacks is fun for him, thus encouraging his viewers to do the same thing. Kabam will never forgive anyone who does such things, especially if ur rotmg channel is very popular and therefore somewhat influential(for example koolkid got banned). However tech posted the video so in my opinion he brought it upon himself. He wanted more content to his channel, he got it. But the side effect is that he gets perma banned.

It is true that buffing ents is a part of the game so thats one reason he should'nt be banned, yes he did help kill people, but he doesn;t deserve such a big punishment. He was a supporting the act but never actually killed players himself.

we should just get everyone in the rotmg community and who is still playing the game... and all the other players and communities from other games from kabam to stop playing the games... and make kabam go bankrupt and in debt... then we infiltrate the company and stage a coup d'tat... but before that... we should let the irs seize the place... and then we should infiltrate the company and stage a coup d'tat and take the company back from the irs and unban/suspend techmech... or we could infiltrate the company... get that person to become an admin... and unban techmech AND/OR recreate another swatsec incident... and then place the blame on someone... or we could just sue kabam for fraud because they're not refunding the money used on techmech's account...

Techmech really can't do anything to stop them from killing people with Ents. There's no way in the game where you can just stop someone from doing that and If he tried by talking, it wouldn't work.

DragonBow RGHR yup, you can check rotmg troller's channel, he does asshole things all the time. He doesn't care what people say and will do whatever he wants whenever he wants no matter who he has to sacrifice (in this case techmech and maybe some others idk)

He shouldnt be banned because he did not assist in any way (besides buffing them) he was just there recording and did not have any intention on killing anyone it was only the hackers that say Cland and crystal he didnt say anything in chat so therefore he should not be banned
