Thanks Ross! I'm a retired 62 year old man and do enjoy my Hanayama puzzles. I amassed 50 of them over the years and only solved about a dozen by myself and 5 with your help. I just finished disassembling the Rotor, having to slow the video down to .5 speed and hit rewind for some moves. I'll take a break now and try to reassemble it, again with your help. Thanks again for posting all your helpful videos. Brad Williams Ps- Could you direct me to the best place to purchase some hard to find puzzles. I'm in the US and they are pretty hard to find. ✌🏻

Thanks Brad, glad I could help. 50's a nice collection! I get most of mine from Puzzle Master (there's a link in the description). Occasionally they've been out of stock of one or two but the majority of my puzzles have come from them. Good luck with the reassembly!
Tip: play this video at 0.5 speed. Thanks, i found assembly it back almost as hard as solving it. Even with your video haha, but playing it at 0.5 speed helped a lot.

Many thanks for your very nice video and clear instructions - well done with a challenging puzzle - as always key to solving any puzzles it is important to identify specific landmarks and to move one piece relative to the other - beautifully illustrated here I would like to add that the real "magic" or trick in the puzzle design is in recognising there are 2 sides adjacent to each of the Mercedes Benz "spikes" on the perimeter - although you did not make a point of this because it is perhaps obvious to you, in fact it is absolutely critical that whenever the silver rotor passes through the gold rotor it must be done using the correct side - you will know immediately if you used the correct side because if you used the wrong side the puzzle essentially jams up, but when you use the correct side the silver rotor easily rotates in its own plane 60 to 90 degrees, and there is tremendous freedom of movement so that the puzzle can continue to be manipulated without any force - this is the little special thing that was glossed over in the video, but once you appreciate this and pay attention to that detail in the technique the puzzle can then be solved Thoroughly enjoyed your presentation!

I was so lost, needed some guidance to solve. I was at the point that i lined up the end move but upside down. Couldn't figure out how to flip it the right way around. Recently started with hanayama puzzles. Salmon river medaillon, the caged puzzle, the ufo, and the rotor. With the ufo i was lucky, the rotor one is though. Looking forward to add more. Really enjoy fidgeting with these puzzles.

I'm so lost on this one. I've had it for 2 weeks now and have no clue where I'm at. Uggg
@RossDM4 жыл бұрын
It's one of my least favourite. All I can suggest is to just keep moving it randomly until you recognise a position you see in the video. For instance, if you find the move where you can cross the axis, there's only one position you can do that.
@kennygraham6634 жыл бұрын

I think the best way to figure it out, is "pulling" the puzzle apart and treat it as gears. Keep the gold stable, and move the silver around, and find your way to the state you can switch over the 3rd move. Make a mental note of where the rotor or hanayama markings are, and recognize those different states and switch between them. For example, the hanayama's interlocking, in the state where the 3rd move is possible, is the "original position state". Rotor on gold upper right, hanayama on silver top, is the "take apart state". I'm still working on the other two states since i lucked out ;). They are less important, but could be usefull if you give it to a friend and he happens upon the 3rd move and messes it up ;). I'm impressed in several ways how you can solve this puzzle.

It's very hard to help with this one given all the possible positions you could be in. The only thing I can suggest is trying to join the solution at some point. Easier said than done though.
@sjltubeyou3 жыл бұрын
I have had this puzzle for 3 months, trying maybe an hour a day, but getting nowhere. My starting position is not like when the puzzle is new, so ||I cannot follow your solution. Once or twice I thought my position exactly matched one of your steps...step 4 and step 9. What I found is that is was still not possible to do the next move, which means it probably was not an exact match. Do I understand this correctly? From any position, it is always possible to do one and only one move? By that I mean one possible move per color? Or does this mean that smoetime you can pass the silver opening over the gold, and it may also be possible to pass a gold eopening over the silver? This wouls imply at any point there are 2 possible moves, and i f it can be solved in 10 moves that would be 2 to the tenth power possibilities...OUCH!!!!!!!!
@RossDM3 жыл бұрын
You've thought about it way more than I have lol. All I know is that there's incredible amount of possible positions and moves. It makes it incredibly hard to do a solution video for it that people can actually use. Unfortunately, this is the best I could do. Good luck with getting it apart I guess!

I solve the last part (the final 3 moves) in the opposite direction. I was happy to find I was at the spot just before. I checked to see if I was doing it right. When I saw I was you said there were 3 moves left. I knew I was close so I tried to finish where I had gotten to. That's why I went the opposite direction.

That's why this is a tough solution video to make. It's impossible for me to do a solution from every possible position so I had to do it from the start and one of your jobs is to find your way on to the route through. It's very tough but you'll manage it eventually with a bit of perseverance.
