Gavin Harper we do yes, which in itself proves you only know how to complete a form and pass a test, it does nothing to prove flight competency. Hopefully the Americans will kick this for six and throw it to the curb before EASA or the CAA get any inspiration from it, if not then I can only see mass disobedience as being the only way to fly. The EASA regulations coming into force on 1st July are draconian enough for us, we don't need anybody getting any mad ideas to follow the FAA example, so we all need to collectively keep a strong eye on this.

It is discouraging that the FAA wants to rope the enthusiast in with the commercial use of drones. First off way to small, and no fun at all, unless they want us to power loop the parcel through their front room window! Great video. What most people don't realize is that this bill and most of those around "unmanned" aircraft is ALL about commercial application and national security. The simple solution (which I feel will be found) is that recreational usage will be exempt with restrictions (e.g. flight range and altitude). Until they differentiate, it will be a challenge, but with proper lobbying, all they need is to insert that terminology.

Great video, Drew, and much needed. For me, it’s clear that the FAA, along with the companies wanting to get into the commercial delivery business, have already made up their minds. They went this way because it’s the least onerous way (for them) to establish the airspace rules for the new age by simply deciding to claim ownership of the airspace between, say .0001 inches and deep space. But we have to realize that shutting down airborne traffic (other than their own) is certainly the easiest and cheapest way to get around the fears people have of drones and other aerial items falling out of the skies and killing them. And the reason that they want to require this special onboard equipment is not just for unmanned Air Traffic Control, it’s also there to drastically reduce the numbers of drones and R/C aircraft in the skies. In fact, that’s the elephant in the room. How can you ensure that there will be only very rare instances of collisions resulting in property damages or injured people on the ground? Well, the zero-cost way of doing it is to get everything out of the air so that UPS, FEDEX, DHL, not to mention Amazon, have it all to themselves. The AMA, I have been told, were able to get exceptions for their members at their chartered fields, but only below 400’ and no more than 400’ beyond the ground boundaries of the field, if you call that an exception. I’m afraid that this war won’t be won with the FAA. The FAA and the delivery folks have been developing that for years; when a rock has that much momentum already, it’s very difficult to get it to change course. In my humble opinion, this has to become an issue that your congressmen/women and senators get involved with. They can apply the kind of pressure that can blast the FAA back to the drawing board on these regulations. But they have to believe that this is something that is important to their constituents and that the FAA is overstepping its bounds. Those are the people who have to be lobbied; your local congressman, your two senators, and your representatives in state legislatures. This “comment” has gone too long already, but it’s important to keep the conversation going if we are to succeed.

What's sad is, this is kind of true. You can build a manned aircraft of your own design, and get it inspected once for airworthiness, and you are OK to fly. You still need a license (above a certain weight limit) but if you fly in uncontrolled airspace you can get by with little or no radio equipment (no ADS-B). This unmanned aircraft proposal, as written, is much more restrictive than that.

These rules and regulations are being written by a commercial organization (Drone Alliance) who's only goals are Control and Profit. If ALL Recreational/Hobby RC Flying of ANY type totally disappeared tomorrow, they would be quite happy. Most of the people running these organizations are not passionate about the thought/idea or love of flight. They are attorneys, managers, public relations people, etc... passionate about the idea of making money in the new "Drone Economy". They are spending a lot of money through their lobbyists to get the FAA to do what they want. If it means closing down the hobby and all FRIA's and AMA fields in a blink of an eye they would. Because this is about people who want to make money...a lot of money. Non-commercial RC Flying of ANY type is like a gnat flying around their head and through lobbyists...the FAA is their flyswatter. As you can read below their only problem with this FAA proposal is...it's not happening fast enough. "The Commercial Drone Alliance was thrilled to see the FAA’s proposed remote ID rule today - the federal government’s holiday gift to the commercial drone industry. We are still reviewing the details, but upon initial review the FAA’s proposal appears to open the door for expansion of the BILLION DOLLAR COMMERCIAL DRONE ECONOMY here in the U.S. The proposal is comprehensive, covering UAS weighing 250 grams or more as necessary for safety and security. It is performance-based, and therefore future-proofed. One concern we have is the implementation period, which is needlessly up to 3 years. Until remote ID is implemented, the American public will be deprived of many of the vast safety, humanitarian and efficiency benefits of commercial drones. Remote ID implementation will be cheap or even free for most drone operators. We need implementation yesterday, not three years from now. We look forward to filing public comments with the agency and to continuing our work with the federal government to continue to integrate commercial drones into the National Airspace System." But having worked in both Aerospace and the Tech Industry I know how these people think. Personally, I think they're deluded. But the big companies behind them are seeding them with lots of money...so here we are.

Love everything you said and agree... one issue of concern I do have with the bill proposal from Mike Lee, it gives property owners a solid basis to deny you from flying a spot, whereas currently they can only stop you from being on their property. I could still legally stand on the sidewalk across the street and fly that very airspace legally. I personally would prefer the FAA keeping control of that airspace and excluding us, as builders completely, from the more intrusive regulations...or at least give us a cushion of space to use, whether it be 200 feet or whatever.

Thank you, Drew! Thank you, Rotor Riot! I love flying my fixed wings! I love flying my quads and fpv wings via FPV. I look forward to see what Rotor Riot comes up with to address the FAA's over-reach. I have a 6 year old daughter that wants to begin flying with me. The new proposal would be disastrous for my daughter and I and everyone else that loves FPV. I'm with you all!

R.R has been bought by Redcat, and Redcat wants these regulations in place. They been developing tracking software for drones for a few years now. They ahve a hand in this happening. I love Drew, he was my inspiration for getting into fpv, but I think he's stuck between a rock and a hard place now. I don't blame him personally, but the company he's now an employee of is definitely a problem.

In a submission to the regulator in 2017, the Commercial Drone Alliance argued: “For tracking regulation to be successful, it is imperative that any such regulations encompass all but the smallest and most unsophisticated UAS [unmanned aircraft systems] in order to be effective.”

@@pug6871 Yes, but the rest of the message is about FPV. Anyone watching will soon forget that it affects ALL R/C aircraft, since the rest of the information in the video is about FPV. Most people in the R/C community still believe Remote ID affects only "drones", and they don't realize that "drones" = All R/C Aircraft as far as the FAA is concerned. That's why it's important that all of these public service announcement make that point clearly, and frequently.

@@pug6871 If only those involved in FPV were viewing this channel, then fine. But videos on this channel are viewed by by many people, not just those taking part in FPV activities. The goal is to get the message out to as many people as possible, and get as many comments as possible on the NPRM. If we continually imply that this ONLY affects FPV, then we are doing a disservice. The message is "this is bad for ALL R/C aircraft, including FPV", and that's the message that needs to be relayed.

This is so interesting. I am involved in several organizations that use UAVs of all sizes from racing quads to flite test planes, heavily modified aircraft, and capstone teams with 5-10 ft aircraft for educational purposes. I wonder what the plans are of the FAAs plans are. More than just a hobby this is a tool that will be used far into the future for many more uses than we can yet imagine. Large scale flight completely changed the world as we know it. Small scale, unmanned flight is going to do the same.

Seth Jeffrey doubt it was them as 30k ft to hit airliners still wouldn’t be that dangerous since they are required to pass the bird strike test where a turkey the weight of a bowling ball is launched from a cannon at a few hundred mph, and the plane must survive. Toys would do nothing, maybe scratch the paint, but really not much (as an aerospace engineer we were required to look at photos where a worker got sucked into a turbine, the engine looked fine but the blood and clumps just got thrown down the plane like a blender with the lid off, like those meat grinders will suck up birds and toys without batting an eye!).Then fireworks are still legal to shoot here any day without permit or license (so recently on New Years a bunch of drunken idiots were shooting 500 gram explosive rockets into the sky), and even though multiple deaths and billions in property damage is caused by fireworks they are still legal... my coworkers (civilian) have military night vision scopes on suppressed rifles for hog hunting (same dude even had a machinegun until his wife made him sell it, but he still rents a helicopter with a .50 cal belt feed for shooting hogs purely for fun). Actually a large portion of them have silencers and some multiple like that one dude had 7 silenced weapons! You know what it takes to get a silencer legally? $200... Then it magically becomes safe according to the government. If that’s not bribery I’m not sure what is, at least other countries they are more open to bribes and don’t lie about it, but then we’d have honest politicians and we just can’t have that!
