I’m so happy you guys have a KZbin channel dedicated towards art books!

You should check out the Art of Finding Nemo. It's one of my favorites and the art they show is STUNNING. So happy I found this channel. It feels like I finally have someone to geek-out about animation with.

Fantastic video, Morgan! It's always great to see a new Rotoscopers video posted. I just love art books (I NEED to get my hands on that Mary Blair book). Although, "Frozen" will forever have my favorite concept art. (I have so many photos collected on Pinterest, etc. It's, honestly, kind of sad). There are so many art books I wish they would release, though. Being a huge Disney Renaissance fan, art books from The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and Beauty and The Beast are what would excite me the most. And, um, a lower price tag on the Lion King one. Not to mention, am I the only one who already can't wait for The Art of Moana? Ever since that one piece of art was released, I've been way to excited, considering its a year and a half away...
@bryanmunoz68579 жыл бұрын
Yes they do need to release those!
@Callmekatielee9 жыл бұрын
Yes. The high price tag is always an issue... I guess I should been more specific, though. What I meant was, I would love for them to make regular, modern art books for the films. Yes, Aladdin and Beauty and The Beast have "making of" books, and Little Mermaid has a miniature art- type book. However, if you ask me, nothing can beat a regular art book. You never know. Disney, obviously, loves their movie re-releases, and they have been putting out tons of soundtracks with the "Legacy Collection". Maybe the company will decide to release modern- day art books for their older films

Great list! But I'm sad I only own your #1 and 2. Tangled is so amazing, including the book. I've had my eye on The Art of The Rise of the Guardians since it came out so I should probably pick it up. I would probably add The Art of How to Train Your Dragon to your list for Nico Marlet's amazing pencil work. And also The Art of Pixar, which I thought was really educational for visual storytelling.
@MrMrMrprofessor9 жыл бұрын
I own two of these! I bought Hyrule Historia on a whim last year and ended up loving it and now I own Art of Tangled which will be arriving very shortly! Can't wait to start reading it :)

The only art book that I have is The Nine Old Mean by Andreas Deja. It's a great book to own! It talks about every one of the nine old men, the characters they worked on, and their individual style. Plus, there are some beautiful sketches and animation drawings! I do wish I learned more about how they came to work for Disney or a little about their lives, but it's still a worthy addition to anyone's collection.

My favorite Art of book are 5) How To Train Your Dragon, 4) Pixar Shorts, 3) Ratatouille, 2) Toy Story 3, 1) Tangled. The Tangled one is just so superior to all others, both in art and text. It's just phenomenal.
@ChrisPrime1bot9 жыл бұрын
Morgan, that was a fun list there. And I'm pretty happy that The Art of Tangled is on the top spot (period) so far. I was really glad that I made that title my first ever Disney related artbook in my collection. And to having to browse through the pages once in a while and admire the works of Glen Keane and many others who contributed so much to make this iteration of Rapunzel possible. I hope to get The art of Rise of The Guardians and Legend of Zelda in the near future as I want to Cosplay as Wind Waker Link and Bunnymund in the near future. But right now, I want to make my Cosplay of Flynn Rider. ;-) Good list.

I'm so glad to have a channel that shares my love and enthusiasm for animation and art! Great top 10 video Morgan! I would personally love to own The Art of Lion King, after seeing Chelsea's video about the book I want it really bad! However it is on the pricey side :[. However I have recently purchased my FIRST EVER art book (I know I'm so excited :D), its Disney's Tim Burton's 'The Nightmare Before Christmas: The Film, the Art and the Vision' - I'm really obsessed with the Nightmare Before Christmas, it is one of all-time my favourite films, and I can't wait to give it a read when it arrives!

Great collection of art books! Very jealous of some of them! A series of art books I haven't seen you guys review are the Disney Archive series! I've got 2 of the 4 books, "Story" & "Animation", they are beautiful books showing different stages of the film making process, the other 2 books are "Layout & Background" and "Design". From the reviews I've seen the "Animation" book is the worse of the 4 and saying that I still love it! If you get the chance to buy them or read them then do! They are on the expensive side and cost me about £30 ($45) but it's a bit cheaper in the USA and they're about $35 on Amazon.

I’m not sure how it’s the worst. It depends what you’re interested in, but I’d say it’s the best, as that’s the art that made Disney what it is, and the rest is just supporting that, from far less skilled and less important artists.

Great Video! It's always great to see somebody else is this obsessed with artbooks! :) And I LOOOVE that you included the Guardians Artbook! (One of my fave movies EVER, so underrated, and this artbook is absolutely gorgeous!) Still: My favourite Artbook will probably always be ... HTTYD 1&2 (Probably my favourite character design, backgrounds and colour keys EVER and Nico Marlet, POV & Dean DeBlois are AWESOME) AND of course: Avatar: The Art of the animated series!!!! This is like the fricking BIBLE of the Avatar fandom, and it's sooooooooooo full of early sketches, story development, Bryke bromance xD, Art art art and Oh yeah - there's art!!! It's sooo amazing and I can only advise you to check it out, NOW! (Unfornately I haven't been able to get a hold of one of the Korra artbooks yet, but I surely will in the future .. ohy why must there be 4 .. bye money.) Also: The Illusion of Life. This is the DISNEY bible. (Seriously it is).

I want to ask you , do you have a book for drawing cloth folds, material and textures? And for Coloring basics and light direction on characters and shading and how person can color the object to show that its metal and like these stuff? Thanks
@ElectricDragon5059 жыл бұрын
If I may add an honourable mention to this Top 10 that I'm surprised that you didn't include, it would be The Art of Rango Animated Western film are a rare breed and it gives out a good representation of the old west and the desert in a very large scale. But the biggest reason why this book is really worth owning is all the grossly weird, yet beautifully detailed character designs, which perfectly blends talking animal cartoons with western caricatures and nasty roadkill. Definitely deserves a look! P.S. I want that Rise of the Guardians book so bad :P

I genuinely cannot believe you didn't include the granddaddy of all animation art books, "The Illusion of Life: Disney Animation" by Ollie Johnston and Frank Thomas. This is the book that launched the careers of the best modern animators, which explains in depth not just the creation of all the classic Disney characters, but ways to instill lifelike qualities in all forms of animated entities. Why is it no one under the age of thirty seems to realize that the most important events in art and entertainment history happened before they were born? You've left me sadly shaking my head.

I just have HTTYD 1 & 2, Frozen (Yeaaah!), Rise of the Guardian, The mini-artbook of wall-E (From Disney priviliege - it's really cool you should have it if you are more than 5 codes from Disney DVDs/Blu-Ray) and the book of a exposition "Dessins du studio Ghibli" with most of all their layout (and a explication on how it works) (It's not really a artbook more a catalog but it's huge, big and awesome). soooo 1. HTTYD 2. RofG 3. HTTYD2 (4. Ghibli expo's catalog) 4. Frozen (because it's the 3rd artbook that I have got and I was a little disappointing because, it's really not full like HTTYD book and also because I saw some artwork on the Web, I loved them but they were not in the book. I was sad! XD) But now I really want the Art of Tangled, BH6, Rio and Rio 2! Sorry for my bad English >w
