The Warhound is one of the units I use most in RotR. As a defence-oriented faction, the ECA needs something to maintain its vast network of fortifications, and the Warhound fits in this niche nicely.

It's more something to set up a defense quickly after taking an area while you get proper defenses build up.

Three of these digging in takes more than their cost to remove in a direct assault. That is a big win for a defensive unit. But the true value is their invaluable power as supportive defense units.

I think it's due to the hardline disciplined style. Other than that, I agree, the ECA in-lore is way too liberal to be associated with March of the Obedient.
