The 'Free Guy' Cast on Fav Video Game Characters, Uncomfortable Costumes & Taika Waititi's Madness

What would happen if the most generic background character in your favorite video game suddenly became self-aware and decided he wanted to be the hero? The new action comedy 'Free Guy' has one answer, as it follows the chipper Guy (Ryan Reynolds), a nondescript bank teller in an open-world video game who is reprogrammed by rogue developers and takes it upon himself to save the game from being shut down. Ahead of the film's release, Rotten Tomatoes correspondent Erik Davis chatted about the film with director Shawn Levy and the cast of the film, including Reynolds and co-stars Jodie Comer, Lil Rel Howery, Joe Keery, and Utkarsh Ambudkar. Reynolds reminisces about his obsession with Ms. Pac-Man ("I just loved how hungry she was"), and Comer reveals the Sprinsteen hit that pumps her up. Then Keery and Ambudkar talk about uncomfortable, "stripper-tight" costumes, as well as working alongside the unbridled, Robin Williams-esque energy of Taika Waititi. Plus, Levy and the cast talk about complex world-building and whether or not they considered making a game based on the one depicted in the movie.

Most of these cast members probably haven't touched a video game since they were kids. Why is Mrs. Pac Man the character that is Ryan Reynold's favorite video game character? This just tells me that he doesn't know many video game characters....

@@marinecat6543 You gotta understand it's a job. At the end of the day, they're actors. I'm deeply passionate about hacker culture, and I _love_ Mr. Robot, but it didn't come as a surprise that the actors never wrote a single line of code in their lives.

Shawn Levy plays a lot - he played through Uncharted for that movie. And a lot of Fortnite and GTA, he said in a different interview. I think the main reason they don't mention GTA a lot, is because they don't want to get sued - Free Guy is basically a GTA movie without paying licensing fees :D

Loved the movie but honestly, the actor's favorite video game characters are pretty bad choices. Come on guys, at least pick someone with some character development but most of them picked characters from old games that have no personality, no development or anything. What about Arthur from red dead 2, Kratos, but ms pacman? He was probably just joking but come on. Give me some real answers here.
