I lived in Rotterdam in the 90's and loved Surinaams food. The one go to place on the weekend was 100% WarungMini on the WItte De Wit straat for Moksi Meti or Soato soup. It was never dissapointing.

Wow. I really learned something new! Where has Surinamese food been? Being from NYC I've been exposed to various types of diverse cusines. I love Indian food, used to cook it. But the Surinamese Indian dishes has a different twist, plus the blend of African and other Asian influences. What a unique cuisine! I love liver too! If you ever come back to the Netherlands go to Limburg its one of the most amazing provinces in the Netherlands and they have great food. Zuurvlees with patat/fries and vlaai is a must try when you come to the Netherlands. Zuurvlees with fresh Fries aspecially its my favourite dutch food as a Dutchman.

I've been following along for a while now and checking out Surinamese food in the Netherlands. What stands out to me is the creativity of our people there. In Suriname we tend to stick to books of how things were made. However in the Netherlands, they have so many different combinations of the same dishes that I wouldn't have thought to be possible. Like the Bara with the liver. Doing that in Suriname might get you some strange looks. Or the picalilly sauce, which is Suriname is more common in creole cuisine, but its mixed here with Indo-Surinamese food. It's amazing tbh. I will definitely try out these combos!

Cendol is a whole other kind of drink and different ingredienst! Sometimes you've been given wrong info .

It's called Es Cendol/Es Dawet in Indonesia. Dawet in Suriname underwent many changes until it became the version we drink today.

Cendol is made with pandan and palmsugar. Cendol is green ... dawet is pink

@@roshnikali9110 and in Suriname we also have a pandan version. In the past - and then I'm talking about the 40's - 60's - palm sugar was used a lot in Javanese cuisine in Suriname. But the art of making palm sugar got lost and is now imported, but it's expensive. So eventually they switched to regular sugar. Like I said the drink underwent changes in Suriname. It's not the exact same drink, but the origin of it lies with the Es Dawet/Es Cendol drink. The same thing with our bakabana (pisang goreng). In Suriname we eat it with pinda sambel (pinda saus), in Indonesia that is unthinkable. They'd think you're crazy.
